I don't see a problem with Nintendo's current or upcoming lineup. Nintendo always overloads their consoles with their own software.

I recently got a Wii U and I love it. My most anticipated game is Monolith's X and you what I wanna see more on Wii U?
I wanna see more diverse Nintendo IPs and JRPGs. That's all I want.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Why else are we seeing endless CoD clones and once good IPs deviating so vastly just to get the big bucks from the gamers that ONLY play CoD (i.e. Dead Rising 3)?

you can't do that. Because that would require gamers to admit they are part of the problem and they are too pathetic to do so.

@JamesCFox and @kkslider5552000 Agreed.

I've got like 30 retail titles- plus about 10-15 indies. I bought a lot of them b/c they were on sale and hard to pass up. If you are really a game enthusiast, you are going to miss out on a lot of the new stuff, but for somebody like me, who for the most part wants to play Nintendo stuff and have option of some racers, fighters, shooters, I've got my plate full

I know everyone loves to follow the "Wii U has no third party support" mantra but aren't we forgetting the third party support the Wii U did get in 2013? Saying that it lacked shooters, fighters and racers last year ignores the fact that it got CoD, Injustice and NFS. It also got Dues Ex, Assassin's Creed, Batman and Rayman. Then there are indie games like Bit Trip Runner, Mutant Mudds, Toki Tori, Knytt and The Cave.

If that's not enough variety..........

@shingi_70 There's nothing wrong with a violent game. But can you tell me some good brocore games?

Agreed.
Or just a lack of notable games all together. They're going to have to find a way to get more than just Nintendo games on the system if they want it to sell.

I have to disagree. I don't think its anyones fault to be quite honest. The masses enjoy their Call of Duty and Halo so they keep buying them. The corporations want to make as much money as possible so they keep making them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying Call of Duty or Halo or any of those "Brocore" games more than a Super Mario or a Zelda. The video game industry changed when we got online multiplayer lobbies on consoles. The fact of the matter is that most gamers would rather play a Call of Duty over a Super Mario because of the interaction that it gives you with the rest of the gaming world.

Just because there are some of us who would rather play a game for its storyline rather than shooting each other in a virtual world in hopes of ending up with the best record, doesn't mean that we are superior. I know it wasn't said in this thread but I am sick and tired of people labeling other gamers by what they choose to play. Its a form of entertainment, everyone is entitled to play what they enjoy. Those same people could just as easily call us immature little kids for playing "cartoonish" games like Mario, Zelda and Kirby. And you all know that you hate it when they do that so how is it right for us to judge what they play.

At the end of the day, the video game industry is where its at because the masses would rather play online multiplayer games more than anything else which is why we keep getting Call of Duty wanna be titles every year. Eventually, people get tired of Call of Duty and it dies out and then we move on to the next thing. Thats just the way it works.

But to be honest, I don't think the video game industry as a whole is suffering in terms of diversity. I think the Wii U is suffering a little but this year looks better. Sony and Microsoft have a large selection of games on the 360/PS3 and eventually will have the same on the Xbox One and PS4. Steam has the largest selection out there. People just don't notice it because games like Call of Duty are always in the spotlight but I truly believe that the gaming world is doing just fine. I constantly find new things I want to buy/play across the various platforms I own. There is never a period where I can't find something new to buy, in fact I shop for games like girls shop for clothes and by that I mean I stay in the store for an hour if not more trying to decide what to spend my money on.

I played Gears of War 3 online everyday, for a while. I still don't see the issue with Nintendo's lineup.

EDIT: Also, I bought 2 Wii U CoD games, Deus Ex, Tekken, Sonic, Injustice, RE, Monster Hunter, ZombiU, 8 indie games, nd I bought 3rd party VC games. I count those as part of Nintendo's lineup.

In general, I think there's a fairly diverse selection of games, just not necessarily a lot in each genre. I think the biggest problem in terms of diversity is the lack of sports games. (Wii Sports games don't really count. Especially since they are just 100% rehashes of the games we all overplayed on Wii and never really need to play again.)

But in terms of true sports games, we got token efforts with Madden/FIFA/NBA2K, and that's been it. No hockey, no baseball, no new Madden or FIFA. Sports games on the Wii U have been left behind and I doubt this will change as they almost exclusively come from third parties.

To compare to the N64, just baseball games alone, the N64 had:
All Star Baseball 99/2000/2001
Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball
Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest
Triple Play 2000
Bottom of the 9th
Mike Piazza's Strike Zone

I might even be missing some... It's too bad.

PS4 and Xbone don't have nearly as much variety as Wii U, yet they are clearly doing fine. I rest my case.

Yes they are clearly doing fine because both of these companies have built up a great reputation over the last 2 generations gaming wise. The Gamecube was great and the Wii had its fair share of great games but when you compare them to the PS2/PS3 and the Xbox/Xbox 360, there is a clear winner in terms of diversity. I'm not trying to knock on Nintendo, they make the best first party games in the business without a doubt but the fact is they cant release enough of them per year to justify having almost no third party support. Also I don't think its exactly fair to compare the Xbox One and PS4 gaming libraries to the Wii U considering they haven't even been out for 3 months, just like it wasn't fair to compare the Wii U to the PS3/Xbox 360.

I think that the Wii had more diversity than the 360/PS3. Sure it didn't have as many brown looking FPS or M rated titles, but that isn't diversity as it was as equally hard to find good platformers, family friendly or kids titles on 360/PS3. The Wii had more unique games than the other 2 combined.

It isn't really a problem for the Wii U either. What is a problem is the lack of games in 3 major genres - FPS, sports and RPGs. With COD being the only choice for FPS, no licensed sports titles and no big RPGs (until 'X' or SMTxFE) the Wii U lacks games in areas that are the main staples on the other platforms. Unless Nintendo start making their own FPS and sports titles or gets some 3rd party exclusives I don't see that changing.

Sorry but I disagree. Maybe for the 360 that argument is valid but the PS3 had a bunch of big family friendly titles like their Sly Coopers and Rachet & Clanks. You had all the lego games, Little Big Planet and for a long time the Guitar Hero/Rockband franchises. All their racing franchises like Gran Turismo. They still had a lot of Disney/Pixar related games and games from the Rayman and Sonic franchises. The Ps3 had a lot to offer in terms of family friendly but it also had all those FPS games and they also had stuff like Uncharted, Infamous and God of War. I could go on for a long time.
Don't take it the wrong way, the Wii had some great stuff too and if I was a parent with a child who was into video games I'd happily get them a Wii but there would be a PS3 sitting right next to it. The Wii had a lot of platformers and thats great but they lacked a lot in other departments. Where were games like Bioshock, Dishonored, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire?

lol there is nothing wrong with people discussing gaming! Even when they disagree it means that there is enough in the gaming world to talk about which is good. I don't think there is anything I enjoy talking more about than video games and I think that goes for a lot of people on here.

What do you mean "maybe for the 360 that argument is valid"? More than half of the games you listed were released for every system, including the 360. And 360 does have its own racing sims competing with PS3.

Just sayin'
