I've owned my Wii U for two years now, only used a 64GB usb for simple storage. I don't have a whole lot of digital content besides a couple VC titles and LoZ: WW HD, still leaves me 17GB of free space on my Wii U's HDD.
Last month I got my a PS4 and I knew the 500GB HDD wouldn't last long since the games are downloaded onto the hard drive now. So I got myself the 2TB Seagate Backup Plus Slim, took off the casing and swapped the HDD. Not wanting the 500GB HDD to go to waste I decided to order a Y-cable, only a buck ordering it online at Walmart. Hooked it up to my Wii U now I don't have to worry about the flash drives limitations of read/write losing memory over time as you move/copy/delete data. Now I can get Xenoblade Chronicles X's data packs without any problems, still leaving me with plenty of space for future games, dlc, etc. As 500GB(465GB after formatting) will be more than enough space.
