I'd like very much Other M, even with the emotions and all this. I see a Samus breaking down, hold a second and coming back to kick every alien but that was around, so I don't see problem with all this "emotions" problem. So, in future games (hope so) is nice to explore a lot more the background of Samus, it happens in Other M, in Fusion and in Metroid Prime, but with "extra salsa" in Other M.

I would prefer a 3D world than a first person, it would help a lot more to create a very massive world...or universe exploring oriented than a FPS.

They really should announce one and a bunch of other games. There still is not enough released on the Wii U.
With the 3DS, the library is already huge... and they have more Pokemon, and Zelda, and even a new Kirby, and many titles all the time. Right now we are looking at SM3DWORLD and DK was delayed to 2014. Not enough games.... Nintendo needs to release 5-6 exciting Wii U titles in 2014 to seal the deal here and get some momentum going.

Well it is also first person. A unique combination.

I think 2014 is the Wii U's redemption year with games like Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong: U, Mario Kart U, Super Smash: Bros U, Yarn Yoshi (APPARENTLY), Monolith's X (APPARENTLY), Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (APPARENTLY), and (hopefully) bunch of other games that Nintendo is waiting to announce. All those games sound exciting to me.
While the PS4 and Xbox One struggle with inevitable delays and launch hype crash... The Wii U will florish in 2014.
And then there's the game that will undoubtedly save the Wii U if all else fails: The Legend of Zelda: U.
Nintendo does need to announce more first party games, though. There's nothing wrong with announcing a Metroid U game, Kid Icarus: U game or whatever. Just keep the fans happy with more and more legit Nintendo games.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I agree, the true next-gen battle won't start until holiday 2014. The "hardcore" fans will pick up the new consoles when they release but it will be slow goings before any of them reach 360 or Wii sales numbers. What people seem to forget is that it took 7 or 8 years for current gen to get as many sales as they have. People that got a 360, PS3, or Wii inthe past 2 or 3 years probably won't upgrade for another 2 or 3 years.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@DefHalan Agreed fully. I think the transition from 360/PS3 to PS4/One will not be that easy. It would be an entirely different situation if the PS4/Xbox One was backwards compatible. Yes, there is that cloud service that both is offering but I'm not sure about that. If the PS4/One was backwards compatible... I really would begin to worry but luckily for Nintendo (who is the king of backwards compatiblity) the PS4/One can't do that.
And I really do think Nintendo is being smart. They got some very interesting games for 2014 and those games will generate potential buyers. And then there's that new IP that Shigeru Miyamoto is working on. So I think the future is bright for Nintendo. 2014 matters alot for the Big Three. Right before 2014, Nintendo is releasing Super Mario 3D World. This game will definetly be a smash hit. And then there's E3 2014 and Nintendo really oughta pour as many high profile exclusives as they can into E3 2014. They gotta announce some more 1st party U games....that people are begging for.

Interestingly enough, the other two next gen console's biggest competitors most likely won't be Nintendo, or even each other, but rather their own predecessors.

Think about it, the 360/PS3, unlike the Wii, have consistently been getting big title games up to this point, now cost less, and of course have a much bigger library. If the Xbone/PS4 had backwards compatibility this wouldn't be too much of an issue, but as things stand progress could end up being troublesome.

@WingedSnagret EXACTLY. Thats what I've been saying. PS4/One has to overcome its own huge install base from 360/PS3... which is really ironic. Cross-gen games don't help either.
I got nothing against the PS4/One. I really don't. I'm just saying that those two consoles are gonna face a HUGE launch hype crash. Its gonna be BAD. People think the Wii U is doing bad... Hahah while that is true.. What the Wii U is facing right now will soon disappear in 2014. What the PS4/One will face will be terrible. I'm just gonna sit back and sadly watch articles like these pop up in the upcoming weeks... "PS4's Knack: Good Game but executed poorly" and "Killer Instinct: It was fun...for a while." I'm just using those 2 games as examples because I, PERSONALLY, think the PS4/One launch games aren't appealing at all and most of them are made just to look to pretty and not be amazing games.

But you know whats really sad? Since the Wii U (SO FAR) isn't getting Final Fantasy XV, Witcher 3, and Kingdom Hearts 3... I hafta buy a PS4 eventually. LOL XD

I enjoyed Other M and wouldn't mind another game in that direction. Tighten up the combat a bit, add support for other controllers, allow skipping/pausing of cutscenes, get rid of the scanning parts, and you're pretty much good to go.

I would like to see a sequel to Other M that is like, Metroid U is to Other M as Super Metroid is to Metroid (NES).

The fact that the prime games were 1st person is what completely ruined them! (For anyone who is an actual metroid fan, that is.) Samus is supposed to be quick and agile. You can't do that with a first person perspective. The Metroid Prime games play the same as playing Doom or Quake. Metroid isn't Doom or Quake. Other M brought the franchise back to it's roots (and back to it's series' original co-creator).

Someday, we're going to get a prequel that takes place during the height of chozo civilization. It'll still be metroidvania, but the protagonist will be a young chozo warrior. About halfway through, Samus will be introduced as a young, recently orphaned girl who trains under the protagonist and eventually becomes the bounty hunter we know today.

I hope that it's Metroid Prime: 4. I just bought the Metroid Prime Trilogy earlier today and beat that Parasite Queen just a couple of hours ago. I love the game, the only flaw I had with the controls is the scanning. I have to scan every two seconds, and I just read the instructions as "press '-' to scan" but you're really supposed to hold '-,' move to the top of the screen, and then release it. I died at least twice when that first level had a countdown and I was spamming the '-' button trying to figure out how to change to Scan Mode.

I'm not sure what happens in the end of Metroid Prime 3, and I don't want to spoiled. But is there a reason why nobody in this thread is suggesting a fourth Metroid Prime installment?

Also, what's so bad with Metroid: Other M? I bought the game for less than $10 a couple of months ago and haven't played it. I read Nintendo Life's review and it wasn't bad. What was so bad about it?

The fighting for one thing, you have to have to be "authorized" to use your abilitys at all, you still have all your skills and everything. But you can shoot a missle when you want to.

Also how they portrayed samus bugged a lot of female gamers (including myself) and even male gamers as well. She is just a lot less of a bounty hunter and more of a....well...damsel in distress.

A damsel in distress that's killing aliens left and right, but shows emotion. I didn't really have a problems with it. It makes sense to me that she would respect Adam's authority considering her past with him. She could also get in trouble with the Galactic Federation for disobeying him as well. I thought it was a good game and I enjoyed it.

Here is my problem with the game. I frankly don't care if an exploding baby Metroid makes Samus feel all blue inside. I like my Samus the way I like my winters - cold, merciless, and the cause of lots of deaths. I always felt bad-donkey when playing Metroid games because I would run around, shoot everything that moved, kill aliens, and move on. Samus having feelings didn't make the game better or Samus more believable. It made me feel like Samus was weak despite killing a bunch of aliens. Emotions are weakness.

Well ur forgetting one big thing there and thats super metroid where the same thing happend an samus also really felt heart broken after the metroid baby gave up his live.

I would like to see some metroid like metroid 2 where all the different kinds of metroid evolutions show up i miss this really also u get in fusion an omega metroid but still it would be great to display this whole thing on wii u and where ur full off fear to meet the next metroid but u still gotta slaughter it,
Like with resident evil 1 where u gotta fear the enemys because they really can kill u or any oher zombie can kill u also and ur always in fear masses jump through the window.
Well something like this but with metroid, heck u could even use the same setting like u get an emergency call ( like always...) and as u progress u found another metroid laboratory like in fusion but they came much further and of course the experiments ran wild

Anyway its kinda announced that a metroid game is in developement but still isnt announced. It was when myamoto said that retro is big enough to be capable to produce two games at once. All at least for me anyway.

Well this would be awesome but i would still like to play th whole time as samus but only when she was a kid and then some events some time skip with more weapons ability then again event time skip to clear up the whole adam controversal which with people seem to have so much problems. Even so its clear to me but to most it seems its not sadly but ok.

Like Blastoise-san said, it seems 2014 will be the true comeback year of the Wii U. 3D World will increase sales and get Wii U through December and January. Then the big exclusives like DKC: TF, Bayo2, MK8, Smash, etc. start releasing and we should see sales get even higher.

I'll buy anything as long as it's not some lousy dialogue-driven narrative like Other M (because we all know how good they are at writing). Just go back to the core feelings of classic Metroid games: Isolation, total oblivion of your surroundings, and a gradual descent into darkness -both metaphorically and literally.

Bad news though....Miyamoto said that Retro Studios is a strong consideration for developing the next Metroid game. RS making isn't the bad part: Shiggy implies that development hasn't even started yet. So...it's gonna be a few more years.

Well that sucks.

Nintendo needs to get its priorities straight already.

@Il-Fortissimo Thank you.

@Freakazoid I agree. Miyamoto could just be being coy with his response. I mean, Nintendo is always coy with their responses about unannounced games, until they have been announced.
