Topic: Vintage Nintendo Power Mags Price Check

I have issues 2 or 3 all the way to 60 minus one or 2 here and there. Most are in pretty decent shape, some still have mailing label on them or the cover torn off but still there. Most still have the posters and inserts still inside. Would anyone know how much I should ask for these? I was thinking maybe doing something like $10 or $15 or best offer plus shipping. Maybe a little more for the strategy guide issues since they seem to go for a little more. Is that reasonable? Any input about this would be greatly appreciated!

Nintendo Powers aren't really worth that much, but if you get them officially graded then they'll be worth so much more.

Well I figure if I have 45 issues and I sell each at a minimum of 5 bucks a piece, that's at least $200 in my pocket. And considering these were my cousins and I didn't spend anything on them I'd be happy with that. I just didn't want to practically give them away if they're worth more. But what does the grading mean and how would I go about doing that? Does it cost me anything?

Grading Nintendo Power issues? No.

The most expensive ones are the first and second issue (the one with Simon Belmot holding Dracula's head) and they go for between $25-80+ depending on condition. The more expensive version would be in absolute mint shape.

I routinely see collections of older issues of Nintendo Power in groups of 20-40 go for anywhere between $60-150+ On eBay, again, depending on their condition. If it's a no reserve auction starting at $20, your collection could sell for $50 or $100+, it really depends on who wants it and if there are other similar auctions up at the same time.

Yes it does cost money, but if you want to sell them online, at a good price, this is the best way to do that.

I collected mint/near mint versions of several older Nintendo Strategy Guides on eBay over the course of a couple years and out of the thousands of listings I viewed, there was not one single issue/guide for sale that was professionally graded. This would be a colossal waste of time, and would also cut into your profit by a huge percentage. As I said, 99% of these are magazines that sell for $2-8 a piece, they are not $10,000 comicbooks.

Wow... if I knew this was the case, I wouldn't have torn up and recycled the tens of NP issues I used to have, dating from December 1993 to December 2002, including a good condition issue 100... I did archive a lot of the pages which I thought were poignant or historically important, but I didn't think about bundling them for a collector's sake, since I was daunted by keeping around hundreds of game magazine issues... Woops... I do still have the Final Fantasy Player's Guide issue in decent condition, though!

Sorry then, I come from a comic/card collecting background and I just figured the same rules applied! I've only owned 1 NP comic, and it was a Dragon Age issue from the late 2000's

No prob, that's understandable. These magazines just aren't all that valuable so grading them is unnecessary. Sometimes I see individual issues (older ones) being sold for $15 each, which is a bit nuts, because every week you can usually pick up a set of 10-20 old ones for around $30-40.

While I appreciate the input, after checking out that grading website I agree that it wouldn't be necessary. And while I do like ebay, sometimes I really hate trying to price an item according to what it sells for on there. There's just to many variables. I think I'm just going to start off with my original plan if these mags really aren't worth that much. And if it doesn't work I'll play around with it. Would anyone be interested in buying any of them? I'd rather sell them off of ebay to avoid selling fees!

@pokefraker what kind of cards do you collect? I also have my friends card game collection I'm trying to sell but don't know anything about them. Maybe you could help?

I collect old TV show cards, and pokemon cards (usually only misprints and such)

I would think the real early Nintendo Power issues would be valuable (or was it just early EGMs?).
I would think the "strategy" focused issues more useful to keep around, but then that's probably just nostalgia of the pre-GameFAQs era talking.

Any idea where I can buy large quantities of old Nintendo Power magazines?@tink13

Whoa, vintage thread!

Where to buy anything old... ebay.
Or Google for collector forums or something.

Yeah I just hate going through that whole process with Ebay and if you buy every issue from there you will end up paying an arm and a leg for shipping.@KingMike

@jtmoses I generally do not bother but since I am about to get rid of my NP collection (that's number 1 & 2 in NM condition (yup, yup) up to 150, being a loyal fan, I need to move on. I've also got a bunch of official Player's Guides such as Killer Instinct , Mario Mania, Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time and Street Fighter II Turbo all available. All of them are not missing a single page and contain even, for the case of that SSF2T one, the original gaming card in the mag.

Am from canada, not sure if anything would be of interests to anyone? After having checked on ebay however, NP #1 in NM (like mine) goes out for 400. Can supply pics if you are serious.

Holla!

Yeah, let's not go there...
