I remember trying Star Fox 64 at Toys R Us once, and it had a "Captain" mode. When I died, it provided a dramatic mourning scene. Does anyone remember this?

this is also something to consider. i didn't bother with video game demos back then (mainly because there would always be a crowd of kids waiting to play while their parents shopped elsewhere in the store), so if the demo was different than the release version, that may be why no one else remembers this 'captain' mode.

Star Fox 64 was released in July 1997. I remember playing this in the store as a kid. At the time, I would've been 11 years old. Still, it was most likely Star Fox 64 because I ignorantly played it with the D-pad instead of the analog stick. That's the reason why I got a Playstation instead of an N64.
