Hi guys. So, I've never really played much of Ocarina of Time (don't shoot!) and I'm looking to finally try it out fully. Only question is, there's now the 3DS version of it, and I wanna know which version is better. Somehow by an act of God I own the gamecube version that has masterquest on it, got it cheap back in the day. I tried playing it as a teenager but got confused on what to do at a certain part and stopped.
So, should I stick with my gamecube version, or play the 3DS? Which one has better gameplay?
Also, the 3DS version has a hint system in the form of a sheikah stone, plus the touchpad and gyroscopic controls can make things a bit easier overall. Oh, and some of the graphical enhancements actually help certain quests.
If you're curious, there is a wiki you can search for that lists all of the changes. Beware though, they might contain spoilers.
I suggest the 3DS version, largely because of the item screen improvement with the bottom screen.
Water Temple, Iron Boots..... much better on 3DS version.

3DS version definitely. For me the nicer graphics and 3D effect alone make the 3DS version worth it, but there are are also control advantages to the 3DS version. I especially liked the gyro aiming when using arrows, boomerang and hook shot. Also the 3DS version makes the water temple a bit less frustrating by making it easier to take the iron boots on and off. There's also an optional hint system in the 3DS version should you desire it.
The only advantages I can see for playing other versions of the game are 1) you want to be able to play on your TV or 2) you want to experience the game in its original state, 1990s graphics and all.
It also has the master quest version as an option. But if you've never played it, you should just stick with the regular version.
See, this is something that concerns me. 3DS version is much more appealing to me, but I feel like I won't have "earned my stripes" without playing the original.
@SuperLuigi111 Nah, they meant the regular difficulty on 3DS instead of attempting Master Quest. but if you've got the disc on Gamecube, it's got Master Quest, too.
It's still an accomplishment. especially the Water Temple. Oh! and since it's not one of the first run N64 cartridges, you won't get stuck in the temple without a key!!

That's an unfounded fear.
It's a very good remake because it changes almost nothing about the core game. The improvements are purely in terms of graphics and user-friendly gameplay tweaks (like selecting items on the touch screen rather than needing to go into the menu).
You will miss nothing by just playing the 3DS version.
You should get the 3DS version, in my opinion. I also played Ocarina of Time for the first time on the GameCube, but a glitch caused me to lose a lot of progress, so I stopped playing it and picked it up again on 3DS after a few years. The remake is better in every way, and it fixes a lot of the really tedious aspects of the gameplay that were in the original version.

I played Majora again on GameCube and the game froze right as I jumped down to fight the stone temple boss. I just stared in disbelief as Link screamed, because I had all the fairies and masks, and on my way to clock town after i beat the boss. So annoyed

@HobbitGamer I thought I was stuck in the water temple, but I just had to find a random key. Mines a first edition gold (complete with Muslim chanting).
Recently played through the 3ds remake since I got a 2ds xl earlier this year. It was good. Off the top of my head there really want any game play differences.
Only thing that's wrong about the 3ds version is no C buttons. Playing the Ocerina isn't the same.

I believe the Master Quest side of Ocarina of Time 3D has to be unlocked by clearing a file in normal mode first, IIRC.
Don't feel obligated to play the GCN version first unless you just want to stick with what you already have. I'd call the 3DS version the definitive version of the game (at the time of writing). There are a lot of QoL improvements to what is essentially the same game.
I'm hoping to play the Master Quest side of my game soon-ish before finally diving into Majora's Mask for the first time ever.
