Glad to see two of my absolute favorites mentioned above (although only once each - which is why I'm repeating them now):

Metal Storm - Great action game that featured large sprites, gorgeous parallax scrolling, and gave players the ability to flip gravity on a whim to help them advance. It's not very long or difficult, but is extremely well made and still fun to play through. Shame this one seems so rare and forgotten now.

Nightshade - A point-and-click adventure with lots of neat ideas. Explore the city, find a secret hideout, defeat enemy bosses as a vigilante, earn the trust and respect of local citizens, and if you are very lucky face off against Sutekh the evil crime lord. The continue screens were great: they show you caught by the big bad guy and left alone in a life-threatening trap. Keep your head you can usually escape to fight again, but if you panic or make a mistake it will only hasten your demise. Humor was... well, it's pretty cheesy, but if you like cheesy jokes and bad puns it's great. A true hidden classic.
