At the moment all of the PS1 Final Fantasy games (5-9) are just £4.99 on the Playstation Store (I have £6.03, lucky me :D), but I won't be able to download them before the offer expires unless I get them today. I have never played any of them (I have played the SNES version of 4 though on Virtual Console), and I was thinking on getting 6, 7 or 9. Which one do you recommend?

I'd recommend going from 5 up, actually. I guess if I had to pick one of those 3, I'd say 9.

I second Mickeeymac, FF 9 is the best of those three.

Thanks for both of your answers! I am most likely going to get 9, but I am going to leave it until tomorrow morning in case anyone else has any suggestions or opinions.

I hear that 6 is very good, prehaps even the best, but I would rather get the SNES version on Virtual Console, and just watch the fancy pre-rendered cutscenes on YouTube once I'm done. And 7, well, I'm getting a better laptop in about a month which I can (hopefully) play it off Steam.

I thought the PC version was a Square-Enix website exclusive?

Get those now, you can always get the VC ones later. Though remember to get 6 eventually. (SNES version).

Oh yeah, doesn't really matter where I get it from though, right? (new to PC gaming :p)

Since we're talking about PSN here, which means the PSOne versions of these games, don't touch V or VI - they were bad ports hampered by shoddy loading times.

VII is a classic game, but it's hideously ugly. Not just primitive, it's actually broken in terms of aesthetics, and that does get in the way of enjoying the game now. VIII and IX are primitive, but they're aesthetically sound.

Now, IX is the more traditional JRPG experience, that's why most people are recommending that one. VIII is a more experimental game. I personally prefer VIII because I think the characters are stronger, but either/ or, they're both fine games.

6 and 7 are considered to be the best FF games of all time (some say 6 others say 7 I really like nvm I really love 7 but I haven't played 6 yet. it's really up to u and what you'd prefer. I really like 9 but people hate it, also it's multiplayer.

edit: did some research changed my post a bit.

Get V. It isn't on the NA VC for wii and it is more solid than the 3D titles. But VIII is good too

IX is not multiplayer. XI is a MMO, but the 'I' is on the other side of the 'X' there.

"The best" Final Fantasy is so absolutely subjective that it's silly to even try and come up with a rational, objective argument that any single Final Fantasy game is actually the best.

Once again, this is the PSOne version of V. If you can tolerate loading times every single time you open the menu, you might just get through this. It'll add a few hours to your total play time, though.

The PSN version has less severe loading times, which waltzy here doesn't seem to realize. The translation of V is beyond bad on the PSOne, though, so I still don't recommend it.

I briefly played the PSN version after it was free on PSPlus.

The loading times still make the game entirely unenjoyable.

Weird. The PS3 doesn't have an option to speed up load times. You can do it on the PSP, though.

You can?

I should play it on that, then. That would be awesome, portable FFV (since I never got the GBA game etc etc).

There goes my productivity for a week or two.

Thanks to everyone who has commented! I have decided to get FF9 (seeing that it was my first choice anyway, and most of you did recommend it), and to get FF6 on Virtual Console next time I add some points (long loading times are a real turn-off on the PS3 version since that is the case, and I don't have a PSP or Vita). Haven't decided on FF7 yet, really I just threw it out there because so many people say it is the best.

To be honest GamecubeMan, I think PS1 classifies for being retro now.

Anyway, enough procrastinating! I need to download FF9 before I get picked up to go camping (in the British summer... Grrr...)
