I've been gaming all my life but my lady has shall we say limited experience. She isn't really into games with mandatory goals, bosses or extreme challenges. She does stuff like puzzle games, seek and find and the kinda games you'd probably find on mobile. I thought maybe i'd introduce her to animal crossing so i broke out my 3DS and let her try New leaf. She played it for a good hour and a half so that's something she likes. She's also into Phoenix wright.
Can anyone suggest any other series or game that she might enjoy?
Layton, maybe Danganronpa, puyo puyo/tetris, battle chef brigade (it’s match 3 with some platforming), very valet, overcooked, story of seasons, star dew valley, some yoshi and kirby games work with casuals, any of the telltale games, jenny leclue, music/dance games, mario kart. Casual is really broad and if the premise is interesting and not overwhelming you will often find that so called casual gamers will play lots of games. Look for demos if you don’t own a wide spread of games and let’s plays. Let her see if the premise hooks her. Knowing what gameplay loops hook her/how her brain works helps.

Cozy Grove is one some of my small time women gamer friends have enjoyed. It kinda has some Animal Crossing vibes to it with some light puzzle solving elements mostly involving bears.
and the kinda games you'd probably find on mobile.
So ports of classic JRPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Gotcha. (JK)
I second the Professor Layton series. Excellent puzzles and generally chill story lines. I believe at least the original trilogy is on mobile if the regular DS games aren't an option.
If she likes Phoenix Wright, maybe she'd like Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective on DS or Switch? It was directed by Shu Takumi, who directed the first four Ace Attorney titles. Though the timer can be a tad stressful sometimes, but you can try levels over and over.
There are also those Picross S_ titles on Switch. I like Picross but haven't bought any of these yet.
Any Lowkey platformers like Kirby or Yoshi.
I've heard Super Lucky's Tale is also pretty laid back. Haven't tried this one personally though.
In terms of short, chill Switch eShop games, two come to mind from my library: A Short Hike (very chill, casual game that you can play at your own pace) and Donut County (Weird nonsensical plot, but the puzzle elements, AKA shoving items into an increasingly growing hole, can be pretty fun).
These sound like good suggestions. I have a feeling professor layton would be her cup of tea. She does like detective games like that. I'll look into the ones you all mentiioned.
It probably sounds obvious, but any Pokémon game, maybe let's go Pika/Eevee if you want Switch specifically. It can be a little gateway drug to JRPG's.
I'm a female who started with casual games and still plays a lot of them, and like others have said you can't go wrong with any farming sim/cozy game.
Snipperclips, Heave Ho, Super Chariot, Very Very Valet, Overcooked, Unravel Two, Luigi's Mansion 3, Cat Quest II, Trine, etc. Or just about any Lego game, honestly.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,252 games (as of April 30th, 2024)

She might also enjoy Layton Mystery Journey on Switch if she's into brain teasers, and there is a new Professor Layton game in development that will likely blow it out of the water.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
Bear in mind that Super Mario Party utilises motion controls (with a single Joy-Con per player) while Mario Party Superstars uses standard button controls.
I know they're a little controversial these days, but I prefer motion controls when it comes to these sorts of party games, but it's nice that there are options to appease both play styles without compromising either game.
