Has anyone here downloaded Space Invaders: Infinity Gene for XBLA? It seems to want to channel the awesomeness of Pac-Man CE, which I love...but I played the demo and it didn't quite grab me.

I'm wondering if there's anyone here who either loves it or despises it. I didn't dislike the demo, so I'm willing to download it if people tell me it's a slow burn. Conversely, though, I'd like to know if anyone out there regrets their purchase.

I picked it up on iPhone way back when and had a blast with it, works really well as a mobile game. I've downloaded the demo off PSN but haven't actually booted it up yet. I do recall the beginning levels not being nearly as interesting as they get down the line though, so maybe the XBLA demo isn't very representative.

It's cool but nothing too remarkable...the play-along-to-your-own-music mode is quite cool though and helps extend the fun you'll have with it a bit. I have the PS3 version btw--assuming they're identical.

The way the play and enemies evolve is kinda cool though...it's not nothing too remarkable. I got it on sale for $5.00 and was pretty happy with it...$10 would've made it a little harder to stomach, as it's still a really basic shoot em up all things considered. I wouldn't say love, I wouldn't say despise...it's like a girlfriend you've had for 6 months. She's there and there's nothing wrong with her, but I'm not gonna pretend she doesn't get dropped like a community college class the second a better example of her genre comes around.

God that just kept getting more an more gloriously inappropriate as the sentence continued to type itself.

I too was disappointed with the demo (essentially -- it wasn't bad, just struck me as kinda meh), so didn't downlaod the full version. I'll stick with Space Invaders Extreme on DS

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

Thanks guys. This is one I really want to like, but it doesn't sound too much like I'm missing anything if I skip out on it.

If there's a price drop I'll probably grab it...but until then, there's plenty more to play.

Thanks!

I have it on PSN, and it's all kinds of awesome, imo.

If only for the music mode. Shooting Invaders to the mad beats of Katy Perry* is just epic fun.

  • please note this is a joke. It's really Muse.

@Waltz - I think the entire world is well aware of the fact that Katy Perry is a joke.

I have space invaders infinity gene for psn and I think its great. One of the most inventive shmups I've played in a while. The evolution system could have been better as it plays more into early levels and then becomes more of an unlock system for ships and bonus stages.

However, everything else about it is great. The music is really good, there are a lot of stages and so for a shmup this game is epic as it takes a pretty long time to get through everything. How you play really changes with different ships and the weapon they use. The game can seem basic especially being only a one button game but there is a fair amount of depth to it.

The main levels in the main mode of the game are excellently designed and get better and better as you go through the levels. It definitely starts out slow with the best later on in the game. Once you're done with those levels you still have bonus stages and challenge mode and the music mode. All but you music mode you can compete in the leaderboards.

I paid the full $10 and was happy with my purchase.

Thanks everyone. I went with Space Invaders Extreme instead (thanks for mentioning that above!) and it pretty much did everything I wanted from such a game, so I'm happy. Good gracious is it difficult though!
