Topic: sad to see the WiiU pass....

Was going to post this in the WiiU forum, but decided to post it here as it can apply to gaming in general. I own two consoles, a PS4 and the WiiU (well, I also have a Wii, an NES and a SNES but those are at presently stored in the closet, awaiting the day when I ever get around to setting up a dedicated gaming room in the house ).

The majority of my gaming of late (since last April, when I bought the PS4) has been on the Playstation...mainly because my favorite games reside there (Star Wars Battlefront and of late Until Dawn). But I still play the Wii U regularly and from a hardware standpoint I really like the console. The gamepad (in my opinion) is a stroke of genius...the ability to play games while the TV is in use by another is my favorite feature. I also enjoy games that use the screen properly for inventory management and maps, very nice to be able to just glance down rather then pause the game while I bring up a menu.

The WiiU also has a certain amount of charm...the whimsical music, the animated characters (mii's)...the console seems to just speak fun. I have never regretted my WiiU purchase, despite the relative lack of software support. Despite the relative lack of support, I've downloaded a number of third party games, along with a handful of games on disk...enough to keep me busy with the console for years to come. (Heck...I haven't finishedf my Wii games yet! )

I have already started mourning the Wii U. Just yesterday I went to pick up a new remote for it and they were hard to find at retail. As the retail sections dwindle down, new games dry up, and miiverse slows down I know it will be hard. I am out of touch with this generation of gamers. Wii U should have been the best selling console. It will be remembered more fondly in the future just like what happened to the Dreamcast.

Eh, may I give comments here ?
About Wii U.
It's sad to hear Wii U is abandoned now.
But I still enjoy my Wii U to play both Wii U and Wii (Despite I will have 8 Wii U games only because I have decided the titles which I want to play very carefully).
I will not regret buying Wii U on April 2016 ago.
My Wii U now placed together beside my old Wii . My Wii now used for playing Gamecube and some Wii games that didn't support 16:9 ratio on Wii U.

I really enjoy my Wii U and still play it often (although my girlfriend is presently enjoying BOTW while I play it on the Switch).

It didn't sell because of the hardware. The games are absolutely fantastic.

I guarantee the system would have sold better if it launched with the Wii U Pro Controller instead of the Gamepad. Gamepad should have been optional imo. The system probably would have launched at $250 as well.

From when we got the fantastic one-two-three combo of Pikmin 3 in July, The Wonderful 101 in August and The Wind Waker HD in September 2013, followed by Super Mario 3D World at Christmas time, I had plenty of reasons to have a Wii U by then. And so I did!

What followed was arguably one of the best years Nintendo has ever put out in 2014 with the likes of Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, NES Remix 2, Pullblox/Pushmo World, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 1 & 2, Super Smash Bros. and the very charming and whimsical adventures of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

In 2015, however, things started to slow down a little bit.

We got the first new - and exciting - IP Nintendo has created for what seemed like nearly a decade in Splatoon as well as Super Mario Maker, the latter of which I personally wasn't all too fond of despite having envisioned playing this kind of Mario game for a long time.

On the subject of Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, they were actually the last two games I purchased for my Wii U, given that very little appealed to me last year... and mostly because I had a PlayStation 4 (to play Bloodborne) in 2015, which inevitably begun to cast a shadow over my oft neglected Wii U.

Still, for me, 2013 + 2014 were two of the best years from Nintendo themselves since their glorious GameCube days, and for that reason alone, I consider my three years with the Wii U as both thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile, however brief its time was.
