A topic to express your opinions on the original Xbox. I actually rather liked it and I thought it beat the PS2 last generation. And that was a really close generation im my mind. I have 40 games for it, but I want to hear your opinion on the original Xbox, and feel free to post your collections!

I think I'd give the slight nod to the PS2, but I loved the original Xbox. And if there was ever a multisystem released you knew that you'd get the best version going for the Xbox one. All those hours playing Jade Empire....

I preferred the xbox for gaming over the ps2, but the whole advent of party games like Buzz and Singstar made me prefer the ps2 by the end of the generation...

Project Gotham Racing 2, Halo 1 and 2, Black, Razes Hell, Oddworld, Sniper Elite, Collin Mcrae Rally, Jade Empire, Fable....... I can keep going, I bought my shooters because of the controller was superb for shooters, well the new version of the controller I bought my racing games because of the custom soundtracks. I loved my XBOX, I really did. I actually put it dead equal with the PS2. I played all my RPG and Platformers on PS2.

I liked mine, until one day when I pressed the eject button and the tray popped out, with no game in it. It ate the disk!!! I had to send my Xbox back, I had to send my 360 back. I still don't know how MS got away with knocking out such dodgy hardware. Apparently they are much more reliable now, wow, hat's off. Never again will I buy one of those beautifully made bricks.

I still play my original XBOX quite a bit. I liked it a lot because the analog sticks were so damn good it proved to me first person shooters could be good on a home console. Sports games for its generation usually looked outstanding on the system. It had a small hard drive by todays standards but it was great for the time and I loved being able to put your own music on the system for custom tracks. My biggest regret was not giving XBOX Live a chance on the system. I bought mine at the beginning of 2004 because I wanted to play Max Payne really bad and it was the system to play if you wanted to play shooters. Also played great classics like KOTOR, Jade Empire and I know a lot of people disliked or thought Halo and Halo 2 were overrated but to me they were excellent. I also spent and still spend a lot of time playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the system.

(DISCLAIMER: i never owned the system, i only observed through news and reviews, and played a couple times with friends, but...)

i found the system ugly (which, really doesn't have anything to do with anyhting, but nonetheless, it was horribly unattractive), the controlers oddly shaped and uncomfortable, and the library disappointing. that said, it did (as stated above) have the best interface for shooters, and it did give birth to Halo (if... not much else that was noteworthy) which, while not worth the hype it gets, is the best first-person shooter franchise in history. had i strayed from my gamecube last gen, however, i would have gone with sony. i suppose it's worth mentioning, that my opinion has been changed for this set of consoles, and should i ever come into some money i don't know what to do with, it may very well end up in microsoft's hands.

I guess someone didn't read the proper care and feeding section of his Xbox manual. Poor little fella was probably starving.

@bro2dragons ill agree with you that the xbox was hecka ugly. the thing looked like a piece of trash and yes the controllers were slippery. but the library of games wasnt as bad as you proclaim

Actually my XBOX looked AMAZING..... I had the Halo special edition. You can see it here....

It actually looks freakin amazing. I sold it for quite a profit to a friend of mine who was a Halo Diehard, after years of begging me for me to sell it to him. I rarely played it anymore now that I have a PS3, so no big loss but man did I have a blast with that system.

I don't have one but I've played some of the games for it on my 360. The Oddworld games are good but there aren't that many good games for it.

What? Sounds like it lives up to the hype and then some.

There aren't many games that I really cared about for the Xbox. Halo 1 sure, and Phantom Crash. Everything else was fun, but I wouldn't go back to it. Really not the greatest system for unique software.

Scared of the future, but bored with the past.

Wash your mouth out young man!! The Half Life family takes that crown, with CS 1.6 and Source being two of the most played games ever. Halo is extremely dumbed down, hence why the masses took to it in such numbers. Ew!

@ Machu..... Half Life is the best first-person series...... Ill take Crysis over it anyday.

I like the original Xbox. In fact I thought Microsoft studios was developing some great games and characters that have never crossed over to the 360. Some great games to look for on Xbox are of course Halo, Halo 2, PG Racing 1 and 2, Rallisport Championship 1 and 2, DOA 3 and Ultimate, Silent Hill 2, NBA Street 2, and NFL Fever. Check out some of the original franchises like Fusion Frenzy, Blinx, Vodoo Vince and Brute Force. Also don't forget many games let you make your own soundtracks playlists

@slapshot82: I absolutely adore Crysis dude especially Warhead, but I was there playing Half Life on release, so the series has a special place in my heart. What thread am I in? Oh yeah, I remember seeing Half Life 2 on teh Xbox, yuk! Not as bad as HL1 on teh PS2. My point? I don't know!

@Panda: it still gets too much awe. it's has great multiplayer. the single player is epic. the graphics are solid. but the thing about the fps genre is they're naturally all going to be extremely similar. you can't help that. i love the genre, but it's limited as far as possibilities for innovation. so it's great, and, in my opinion, better than the others out there... but it's not THAT much better.

@Machu: never played any of the half-life's, though i just downloaded the first from steam and plan to play it soon. but i can say that i've never heard the same stories of incredible multiplayer moments from half-life as from halo. and the masses took to it because of the accessibility. an xbox is easier to get into and has a friendlier interface for new gamers than does a keyboard. also it's online multiplayer really sold it, as well as the whole jumping-as-a-key-gameplay-mechanic-to-reach-any-spot-visible-on-the-map-and-snipe-people-from-it thing which no other shooter has still quite copied. i'm not dissing half-life (or anything else... Metroid Prime is my favoriet first person series, but it's not stricly shooter)... i've only ever heard great things about about it. but i do think Halo trumped it, and hasn't given back the throne.

Dude, I've been playing PC games since I was 12, which is nearly twenty years ago. Suggesting that Halo has provided more multiplayer madness than HL/CS is just ridiculous, sorry. Stop being ignorant please, 100 fps's before Halo allowed you to jump. Just because you aren't one of the millions of people who played online fps's long before Halo arrived, doesn't mean you should pretend Halo did anything, but copy, which is all it did. This is why I hate Halo so much. It's fans are absolutely deluded. Sorry if I'm being rude, but you offended me.
