Ugh, I hated the original Xbox. It was ugly, had the worst controller I've ever used, and a lot of it's exclusives were pretty lame. If it weren't for the runaway success Halo turned out to be, Microsoft's console business would've died in a matter of months. The PS2 was a far better machine by a long shot. It had far more variety, and far more successful franchises. That controller alone is what kept me from buying the system.
I suppose you can't blame 'em, though. Microsoft's two competitors have had years of experience with video game console development, and Microsoft was still trying to find it's footing, which is why Microsoft created all those lame mascots that failed miserably, like Asurik and Blinx. Eventually though, the machine started to get a few very interesting-looking exclusives like Ninja Gaiden, Jade Empire, and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, most of which I hope to play on my 360. Plus, the success of Xbox Live is what pushed the video game industry into online play.
Thabnkfully, the 360 turned out to be a significant improvement.
I personally thought it was an medicoric console and the worst out of the three consoles during the 6th generation. The Xbox 360 is better (Don't own one), but it still have major issues that's preventing me from having one.
