That narrow depth-of-focus effect that they use on this game and Little Big Planet is very effective at giving the sense of the game world being tiny, a bit like macro photography.

How is it anything but? It's a very clever and funny concept with some of the more interesting visuals I've seen in awhile, and you don't know that the game will really play the same even if it looks similar. All we know so far is how it looks and sounds, and no Zelda game looks like that. I think it's supposed to be an RPG, too, no? If so, there's an obvious difference from Zelda.
Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

As far as to the gameplay shown in the trailer, it does look like its not an RPG and plays like Zelda. The only Unique part is probably the 3d 8-bit stye made of cubes
50. Posted: Fri 18th Sep 2009 03:06 BST
Journalists keep referring to it as an RPG, but I can't find any articles describing the game play, so it could be a mistake. I see no reason why you would assume otherwise from the trailer, though.
EDIT (Take note of this, castlehominid): http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175855 This actually describes some of it, and none of what is described applies to Zelda at all. Choosing different types of heroes and customizing them? Upgrading your weapon in different ways rather than just linearly? The special attack is nothing Zelda ever had, either, though Neutopia did.

Well, I saw sword slashing and boomerang throwing similar to the Zelda series. Besides that though, we cant be sure yet, I guess. But you have to admit, this game is REALLY based upon Zelda
EDIT: OK, so it DOES have some differences with the Zelda series

Yea, that article gives me the impression that all these people labeling it RPG know what they're talking about and aren't just going by the usual "fantasy game = RPG" misnomer. I think the similarities are intentionally exaggerated in the trailer to get attention, but I also think the reaction has been exaggerated, too. Oh well. Even if it were just a beautiful rip-off, you couldn't pick a better game to beautify, so I'd be happy either way!

The game looks truly amazing. I hope this is coming to the U.S.

You mean stop motion, my friend. Ain't no clay round these parts. And that's just a miner, not Mario.

looks like 95% zelda to meoh well zelda games are always good anyway

All this "looks like Zelda" talk is REALLY getting old. Why are there only two of us who seem to understand that this is its own game? And a pretty darned awesome-looking one, at that. With the press it's building up already, I'd be surprised if it didn't make its way over here eventually...probably with Atlus' help. And when/if it does, I'll be the first to reserve it at my Gamestop!

@Stuffy.... make that 3 buddy. Im willing to bet Atlus or XSEED will pick this up quick. Ill be right there reserving my copy also at Gamestop. The isometric view but still 3D look and art direction hads me sold big time.
@GabeGreen.... you should learn that nearly ALL games, movies, music, art, etc are ripoffs of something. The guys that developed the game usaully had the idea from another game, movie, etc. I dont see a Rip-off but a similarity and a huge improvement of a great game that is INSPIRED by Zelda games of the past.

Parody or not, I don't think Nintendo will be too pleased with this and I can't see them allowing this to be released.
