Mass Effect is probably one of my all time favourite gaming franchises, second only to Zelda. I can't be the only person here who is a fan of this series.

We know that a new game for the ME series is in development. We also know that Shepard and anyone associated with him/her will not be appearing in the next game. But if it's a sequel, I would bet that there will be a little cameo somewhere (whether it's just a picture of someone or names on a plaque).

I guess I'll start the discussion with, what do you guys want to see in Mass Effect 4?
I'd like to see them give us a choice with what race we can play as. Maybe have five or so options to choose from (ie. human, drell, asari, turian, quarian etc). I'd also rather see a sequel that is set quite some time after the events of the trilogy than a prequel. I feel like all we ever get anymore are prequels. The only problem with a sequel would be Bioware would maybe have to chose the canon ending for ME3. I'm not sure how you would import your save over from PS3/360 to PS4/X1.

TBH, Mass Effect on Xbox 360 turned me away from the entire series. I tried it, disliked it, and moved on.

If they fix the problems that I thought the series had, I would gladly pick up this next one. Seeing as the new one will be "fresh", that makes it all the more likely that I'll enjoy the game.

If you're wondering what I didn't like about the series; it was the drama and gameplay. I hear that the gameplay was improved, after the first one, but that was what I expected from the first game. As much as people like the choice and decision system, it felt more like it held back a steady flow of story that could have meant more.

So, even though I have criticism of past games, I'm hopeful that EA will make a Mass Effect game I like. If it doesn't happen, then oh well. Enjoy the game.

Mass Effect 2 fixed a ton of problems with Mass Effect. This is one of, if not my favorite series. Mass Effect 2 being a contender for my favorite game of all time. It's just.. that good. At least for me.

As far as a new Mass Effect series, I'd like it to be another trilogy with the quality of the first (that should be a given but you know how it is). I like the idea of being able to play different races, they could do that and make the beginnings similar to the race choices in Dragon Age(1). I would want the game to take place in the future, many years after the previous trilogy. That way technology has advanced much further and new powers have been acquired. I don't really care if Shephard makes an appearance other than having a memorial for him in the Citadel or something. Obviously, the Citadel should be back. It would be completely overhauled from the first, but similar. I'd want the nostalgia of it being there. Honestly, I don't think they'll bring anything over from a previous save. I don't think it should. Just make it known that in some point in time Shephard saved the universe, but don't make a huge deal out of it.

I liked the way they handled gathering minerals in ME2 as well, just speed it up a bit. Same goes for finding areas to explore on the planets.. everything about two is a shining example of what the future games should contain.

But the first game is the best in the series. Either do a ten year jump and deal with the fall put of the mass relays being done

If you like desperate attempts to still try to look like a "real" RPG that added little to the gameplay, wondering around the replaceable empty planets for basically every sidequest and lesser character dialogue, sure.

Also, Scar, to be fair, ME2 does fix basically every problem you mentioned. While I really liked the first game a lot (...despite what I just said) it can be pretty slow, especially before you leave the Citadel. I'd get ME2 if a well made 3rd person cover shooter with engaging side characters and side quests sounds appealing to you.

I have the trilogy set for PS3. I remember when I first started playing the first game, I hated the controls. It really put me off of it for a good two weeks. I didn't want to deal with the controls. The shooting was weird. The MAKO was.... the MAKO. You couldn't run any faster unless you were in combat. But eventually I got used to it. ME2 fixed everything. The combat was far more fleshed out and there were no more MAKO missions. I also like how ME2 started.

In my opinion
ME1 - Best Story
ME2 - Best Characters and Best Character Development
ME3 - Best Gameplay and Best Mood (it really gives you a sense of impending doom and hopelessness. When you fail, you really feel it)

I was thinking maybe depending on what race you choose, the opening sequence to the game will be slightly different, Maybe there's a big explosion (just an example) on the Citadel, and you're playing as a quarian. The quarian might be on a pilgrimage. The human might be shipping out for N7 training. The asari might be a consort. Then each race might have a different perspective of the same event, but ultimately they follow the same story. Maybe you have to go and explain what you saw to C-Sec and from there the game unfolds.
I'd really like them to open up the universe again and make it worthy to explore in the next game. If they streamline the mining from ME2, I'd be happy to see it return. I'd also like to see them do some sort of space combat where you can actually fly the ship and get into dog fights.
Also, if they do another trilogy... they need to streamline the motion comic. My god. I got ME3 on Wii U (just to support it), and I sat for a good 30 minutes watching this motion comic just so I could make the important choices. By the time I actually got to the game, I was ready to shut it off.

In terms of gameplay 2 and 3 blow the first ME out of the water. It's not even close. Mass Effect is my favorite series ever but when I go back and play the first one now it feels like such a step backwards. Now in terms of story the first game is still great.

I rank them 2,3 then 1.

I know alot of people LOVE the first one and will disagree with me but that's how I rank them.

You're right though, so you can take comfort in knowing that they're wrong.

I really like the first one, but it just doesn't really hold up against the second one. There is what feels like a bunch of "repeat" missions. A lot of the same buildings with the same setup. It's a great game and has an amazing story, but they could have cut a lot out, as far as side missions go. The planets were cool to explore for a while.. but it got old pretty quick, especially with the terrible machine you were driving. Half the time you were stuck on rocks, lol.

I am so happy to see so many people agree that the first game is the worst in the gameplay department. I really tried to like the first game, but the gameplay really held it back for me. Mass Effect 2 was a huge improvement in that regard, even if it does feel like a generic (but still solid) 3rd Person shooter.

I probably would have enjoyed the first game, when it was new, but I bought it before the second one came out, so it was already fairly old and there was better games(in terms of gameplay).

I'd actually probably be more content with watching the comic in ME3: Special Edition, because I basically can't bring myself to play 1 or 2.

... now I want to go back and play ME2 again. The plot was really simple, but at the same time it was fun going around and getting to know your crew and doing all the loyalty missions. As lame as it sounds, the characters almost felt like they were your friends. Some of them you really liked, others and others you didn't like as much. Every player has a different perception of each character, and I think that's interesting. For example, I like Miranda's character. The next person hates her.
ME3 was excellent, it was just the ending that dropped the ball. Well, the ending and I felt like Liara had too much screen time.

I'm hopeful to see some sort of cinematic trailer at E3 this year for ME4.
I'll miss Shepard, but in a way, this is a good thing. It'll be like a semi-reboot and it'll give the series new meaning. It's like Assassin's Creed. They did three games with Ezio, and then they semi-rebooted things with Connor (though AC3 is about as interesting as watching paint dry). .

Bumping this.

Bioware has stated that they have discussed the idea of releasing a remastered version of the trilogy on PS4/Xbone. Would you buy it?
I'm not going to lie, I probably would, because I'm a hopeless fangirl. As long as all DLC is on disc and the games look even better (not like some of those PS2 re-release collections they did on PS3 where the games look almost exactly the same), I'd probably buy it.

The first game for how clunkly it is, is still my favorite of the three fpr nailing the atmosphere, soundtrack, and narrative. I'd go to say its in my favorite three games of all time.

Hoping that 8th gen port of the first three games ends up panning out.

This series....! Ah, its so wonderfull. Really the only WRPG i really could get invested into. (Sorry Bethesda...)
I've got no idea how they could top the Reapers in grandness level. (Honestly, destroy all life, how do you top that?) But hey, at least make it another trilogy, not the fourth wheel, with a new cast and dont bring back Shepard from the dead...plz.

Go a bit smaller in scope. maybe just deal with say a War instead of crazy end of the world doom scenario.
