Topic: Your overall switch impression?

I declared numerous times that I will buy the switch lateron after price drops and other things...

Thing is, I just got an offer for buying electronics in installments. 20 installments at real zero rate.
Needless to say I am tempted.

What is your overall impression now that the hype is gone and the switch has become real life at home?
Would you say its great? Just go buying it or wait until things improve.

Of course, I understand that my question may sound a little bit ridiculous and childish. It is me who has to make a decision. But still, I am a little bit torn. On the one hand. If I buy it in installments I wont really feel the loss of money as its comparably small and zero interest installments means I dont overpay.

On the other hand, the switch seems not as perfect as I expected it to be. Zelda seems kinda laggy with a not so good framerate.
Something tells me I should wait until things improve.

Any ideas?

If you think you'll play Zelda a ton, just get it now. There are frame rate drops in every open world game. So far in 30ish hours they haven't impacted my experience much at all.

If you aren't in a hurry to play Zelda, just wait till more games come to the system. By then maybe Zelda will be patched so the frame rate drops are less frequent, who knows.

@AlexSays
Matter of fact Im in no hurry. Wasnt really planning on getting it so soon.
It was just about an hour ago that I read that mail with that offer. And now its in my head slowly shaking my plans of not buying it early...

There are sometimes frame drops in areas with a ton of tall grass in Zelda, but they only last a few seconds, and really weren't bad enough to take me out of the experience. They really don't happen often at all, anyway, and from what I've heard it doesn't happen at all if you play it out of the dock.

I'd say I really like the Switch in general, but it's not perfect. The main problem I have is how the dock scratches the screen, and how easily the screen can be scratched in general. I haven't had any scratches because I applied a plastic protector I got with my carrying case right away and because when I did put it in the dock, I handled it like it was an atomic bomb made of glass, but it's staying in the dock until my tempered glass screen protector arrives. Thankfully, they're cheap, but they're absolutely a must have if you're getting a Switch.

There are a few other nitpicks, like how if you lose or break your Switch all your saves in your games die with the system, but overall I really like it, and I will like it even more once my screen protector arrives. I can wholeheartedly recommend Zelda, too. Fantastic game, and even though I'm only like 8 hours in, I can safely say it's the best Zelda I've ever played.

For me the portable nature of a full blown Nintendo console was THE selling point for me. I oftentimes don't get to play games as often as I'd like just due to logistical issues. Now I can bring my Nintendo and play anywhere. Having a perfect 10 rated killer app (Zelda) launch with the system definitely was a wise move by the folks at Nintendo.

@KirbyTheVampire I've got a glass screen protector on order and haven't used my system in the dock yet. I put it in the dock once and was very careful as I could see that scratching was definitely a concern. I don't plan to use the dock until my screen is safe.

That screen got me worried as well. Could anyone provide a link to a recommended screen protector? Theres so many out there...
I bought a cheap protector for my 3ds and it got pretty messy right at the beginning from wiping the screen in yokai watch

I also ordered the Orzly protector. I don't know if there are better ones, but it seems satisfactory. Might have to wait for more people to give input, though.

I ordered the same ones as above too. Not arrived yet though. Hopefully they'll keep the screen pristine

Overall it seems a great console to me. Hardware looks and feels fantastic. Can't wait to start Zelda tomorrow!

Great piece of technology with a near barren eshop. I hope to see a lot of new releases this Thursday.

I only had about 1 hour hands on time because after finding out that the screen was plastic I placed it back into the box until my glass screen protector comes (more on that below). So here are my observations.

1. I'm actually fine with the plastic screen but the dock should not be the reason why the screen scratches. Shouldn't this be the number 1 thing you check during wear and tear testing?

2. There is no robust online store. After being spoiled by Google Play and the App Store for almost 8 years the tablet feels like a door stop out the box. Where's the YouTube App? Where's the Web browser? What about a music player? I know that the tablet is new but lets get some of the more common apps on this bad boy. It's a tablet!!

3. Literally only one must buy game. Maybe another with Fast RMX.

Those are my initial issues. I was going to hit the joycons because at least on my controllers the plastic caps (the one with the lanyard) was extremely difficult to slide on. After a little break in it got better. I still haven't played on it (busy weekend) so I'll break it out right now but won't dock it until my protector comes.

Well built, screen great, seamless connection to the tv. Eshop fast, downloads fast. The screen is better than I expected. The Joy Cons are the winner here, they feel great, no connection issues and they've really impressed me.

@AlexSays I have noticed it but only in docked mode. Undocked and it works like a dream for me

@KirbyTheVampire @Andrzej777 What I do is use micro fibre cleaning cloth and fold it over the dock. That way when I gently place it in the only contact it has is a screen-to-cloth. And as the cloth is scratch-safe it prevents the screen getting scratched being put in the dock.
I also use a carry case for my Switch

@Andrzej - If I am honest, I would wait. I feel that if you are having doubts now you are not ready to get a Switch. When I went to the event in January I did not believe I was either. There was not enough to motivate me. But then when I got to try it, when the games I wanted were announced and my next few months were littered with games I want I felt I could fully justify a Switch. And that day at the event I pre-ordered a Switch.

Don't buy a console for just one game. Or two. Look at the next year's worth of games currently announced. If you believe that there is enough currently announced to buy a Switch then you know you are ready.

But just so you know, you are buying a very good console. Is it perfect? No. My PS4 makes loud noises. Xboxes have the ring of death. The Switch has a short battery life. But we are not here for the hardware. We are here for the games. And that is what should matter in your decision.

@Grandpa_Pixel

I think I will wait. Its actually just Zelda out there that interests me and that one can wait.
Maybe they will make some changes for the better in the months to come and address certain issues.

What excites me about the Switch is the potential to have that amazing 3DS support, the thought of playing 3DS style games in 720p or 1080p is like a dream come true, I love my 3DS, but hate the low res screen. The 3DS is almost 5 years old, so it's near the end of a typical console's life. Cannot wait for that Monster Hunter announcement for the Switch.

I hate the dock on the Switch, a terrible design, but hopefully Nintendo will improve it later on and allow us to purchase it seperately, they should have used the same idea as the Wii U charger stand which came with the Wii U, far more convenient. I've had my 3DS for years with heavy use of the touchscreen but because I've always used screen protectors, the screens still look brand new, so I'm fine with plastic screens, especially after watching those youtube vids of people drop testing their Switch, if they had used a glass screen, it would have cracked and shattered, you will drop your Switch at some point (even after careful use of my New 3DS XL, dropped it about 5 times so far...), so that plastic screen is a great idea.

The Switch games lineup looks great for the middle of and further this year, so no worries about game support, it's got great support already.

Breath of the Wild is a killer game, better to experience it now before all the surprises and spoilers land everywhere you look, why do people like ruining games for others.

Any new nintendo system gets a first day buy from me. I save money specifically for that.

Switch is the most impressive one to date. It feels awesome, has great details in both hardware and software. And launching with a game as awesome as zelda means no complaints whatsoever from my end

So I've been reading all this stuff about the Switch storing saves etc to the switch hardware. However, whenever I go on my storage management area, my Switch says:

"LoZ: BOTW

DATA:
Switch Icon: —
SD Card Icon: 223mb"

So I'm mega confused...is my Switch saving it all to SD cards? If so, how come this isn't using the Switch's memory?

My 2p.

I love the switch, it seems to me this system will be the local multiplayers dream machine.

I ordered the Nintendo case with my switch and put the screen protector on before it went into the dock, not because I was worried about scratches as such, more because it is the first thing I do to any tablets / phones.

I have had no battery / joycon issues, nor have I had framerate issues but I am using the switch as a handheld 99% of the time.

Snipperclips is awesome!

Switch games list,

Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.
