I love it, but I do miss the Wii U's features. It feels straightforward and just game orientated, especially if you're using the Pro controller like I do (and why not, if the screen is not used like it was with the Wii U). Of course I'll be using it outside home soon, and then the cool portable nature will kick in. I think it is a console for gamers, no dancing around any other features, which some people call gimmicks. Somehow they managed to cram the 1-2 Switch over too, so they're getting part of that world too with the HD rumble, but nothing else (like pointer control, miiverse, 3D/virtual reality, stylus controls, microphone controls, aka blowing air into the microphone), it's straight forward game on, really made for gamers, gamers on the go.

Just wanted to say that I finally cracked and ordered the switch today...

I must say, though, that the only reason for me to buy it was this 20 installments at zero interest offer that I got. Otherwise I would have waited at least until christmas. Whatever, paying 20 EUR each month wont do me any harm and I can already have a look botw.

Wonder what kind of issues I will encounter (hopefully none)

I've had zero issues. Joycons work, even across the room behind the back covered by a fist pointing the opposite direction... Plastic screen is prone to scratching, but still good choice because it won't shatter and you can put a $10 tempered glass screen protector on (I recommend amFilm using the hinge method for alignment and shower method to avoid air bubbles). Screen is perfect... ya, I love it.

It's barebones- no friend messaging or apps, but for playing games it's on point. Screenshots are instantaneous and probably the best feature I'd say

I think the Switch is genius. I caught up with a friend I hadn't seen in ages. I was playing Zelda at home on my TV. I played it on the train journey to see him. Showed it off at the bar. Had a few people come over and say how cool it was. Then played it on the way home. Quite bluntly, move over home consoles this is the future of console gaming as it is a clear separation from PC gaming., Sony and Microsoft will be throwing money, specs and features at this concept in 2 years because of shareholder pressure, once they analyse all the data.

Will see...

I would have bought it anyway, sooner or later, as sony or ms are no no's for me.

It's possible. I don't know. I'm still not sure where consoles as we know them will go in the next 5ish years.

Part of me thinks there will always be a market for people who just want to sit on a nice, comfy couch and play games with a controller up on a big screen.

But then the other part of me thinks that everything is going mobile and even VR/altered reality/whatever. I'm torn.

You take the PS4 which is doing well EVERYWHERE, even places like Japan where we keep hearing that console gaming is "dead." Well, PS4 numbers would say otherwise. And then again, like I was saying with the Scorpio, when do these powerful consoles just become so redundant that a PC is a better investment AND it can do more/display on any screen(s) you want?

@rallydefault When I was younger, I never thought a home console would become more powerful than dedicated arcade cabinets. I'm open to anything these days

I'm so, so happy with my purchase - can't recommend it enough!

To me, it's like the best bits of every previous Nintendo console in one package:

  • When I slip the Joy-Con off and hand one to a friend, I get that old school NES/SNES vibe
  • It's portable, like the GameBoy
  • It's great for local multiplayer, like the N64/GameCube were
  • The motion-controls make the console accessible for casual gamers, like the Wii did
  • You can switch from TV to tablet à la Wii U
    ...it's got everything!

The games are a little thin on the ground at the moment - but that'll only improve as months go by...with Mario Kart, Splatoon, Mario etc. coming soon, there's plenty on the horizon to look forward to!

One minor gripe I have is that my left Joy-Con does seem to momentarily drop out from time-to-time - only for a second, and only very occasionally - but it's still something that needs resolving...

As for Zelda, it truly is an astonishingly good game - there are occasional framerate dips, but they really don't impact your enjoyment of the game...personally, I find the voice acting for Princess Zelda to be far more jarring than any of the momentary fps stutter's I've experienced! ..the game is beautiful, massive, breathtaking, epic, deep, challenging, rewarding - BRILLIANT! The hype is real my friend - the positives far, far, far outweigh any slight negatives I assure you

Peace!

I love my switch, yes Zelda is a huge part of that but so far have used my switch on the train, in a massive Q and in a hotel room, as well as around the house.

I can see HUGE potential for the system.

Switch games list,

Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.

At first I was very disappointed with the Switch. There was nothing on the eShop, can't message friends, no media apps. And a lack of quality games.

Now I have Zelda, FAST rmx, and 1-2 Switch. Zelda speaks for itself of course. FAST rmx is an amazing game. It is like F-Zero on crack. 1-2 Switch is so much fun with my kids and it also acts as a great drinking game with friends.

I love playing Zelda in bed and the battery lasts long enough to get 2-3 hours of gaming in before I fall asleep.

Once Mario Kart and Mario are out, the Switch will be a real contender. Nintendo just needs to keep the quality exclusives coming.
