Topic: Will BotW 2 disappoint me as BotW 1 did?

Hot take, I know. Of course I'm speaking to those (like me) who played BotW 1 and were annoyed by the weapon durability. Personally I think item durability is an antiquated game mechanic that only serves to pad out a game's time for completion. BotW 1's art design, painstakingly crafted open world, and underlining physics engine are all masterclass efforts by the developers. But that doesn't deter from the fact that it's my least favorite Zelda game I've ever played.

Well...at least it's better than the Phillips CD-i Zelda games, lol.

Anywho, should I expect the durability mechanic to return in BotW 2?

Discuss.

I think the weapon durability was a good idea. If not, you would be heavily over powered quite early on.
Once you have the master sword, it's not really an issue, imho.

Having said that, it did take me a long time to warm to the game. Running around and empty field only to be taken out instantly by some hidden baddies, and no way to get rupees from grass.
Plus will be highly annoyed if divine beast-like dungeons are present in the new one.

I actually really enjoyed the durability system in this game, however, I can see why some people could find it annoying, and I do think that there was room to improve it further. I'm hoping that in BOTW 2 that there's some sort of crafting mechanic, and with this mechanic, you can not only craft and customize weapons, but also repair them if they've taken a beating.

I think that this is very likely, actually, thanks to the shot of Link fighting that worm thing with a flamethrower on his shield. It seems that you'll be able to put different extensions on your shields, which leads me to believe that there will be a more fleshed-out weapons system.

There was a bit of weapon repairability in botw, but I never took advantage of it as it always seemed a faff. Augmenting and repairing your own weapons would be a great improvement

@StarPoint It'd be cool if they added blacksmiths to towns. Give them the necessary materials and they can upgrade and strengthen your favourite weapons. That would definitely help rectify some of the issues people had with the weapon durability.

@OldManHermit This is actually sort of a thing with Second Wind, a large-scale mod for BOTW. It adds anvils that allow you to craft new weapons, however, I'm not sure about repairing and strengthening already used weapons.

Nothing anyone says surprises me anymore on here about BOTW. The weapon durability is probably one of the biggest challenges to see how good one is at gaming and weapon production that no other systems implement in a way BOTW has done. People just love to talk trash about BOTW but fail to release if there wasn't a BOTW we wouldn't have a Nintendo Switch Hybrid Console to start with. I expect the same weapon durability in BOTW2 as well since it worked in BOTW why change it. The weapon self repair with materials gathered would be something new added if they add this feature as well. As since if you can get a home like BOTW then they should have a blacksmith tool shop attached to your home to do your own repair would be a new feature.

@Magician If you didn't enjoy 1 then I would expect you not to enjoy 2, regardless of weapon durability. While the weapon issue can have its occasional frustrations, I don't think the game is suited to you if the weapon durability was a make-or-break issue for you. If the other aspects of the game, that so many people seemed to love, didn't do enough to make the weapon durability something you could put up with, then unless BotW 2 is a fundamentally different game to 1, which I doubt it will be, you can expect a similar underwhelming experience.

Spot on, same feeling here. The weapon durability is just a minor secondary thing. The world feels empty and repetive.. hopefully that will change when they make a big game like this on better hardware in the future. Dont mind the direction zelda is going, but zelda open world is released to early.

Just got a bad feeling that it will be alot of the same because of hardware restrictions. But who knows.. i also have to add that i hope they take a different direction with the mob design, or atleast mix it up more with different types of mobs. @Blackrosewaifu9000

Is weapon durability the only thing you didn't like about it? If so, then I suspect you will be disappointed by BotW 2. They'll probably keep it. They might add something to let you repair or prevent weapons from breaking.

@Octane What a deliciously stark, bleak, and stunningly blase response.

I thought that the weapon durability was a good idea, because it encouraged you to use different weapons, instead of just always using the strongest one.

Also, most enemies leave weapons behind, so you usually never run out of weapons.

However, I almost suspect that Nintendo will remove this feature from BOTW2, because there was such a huge backlash online. Although personally I don't understand it.

@Magician
If you think you will get disappointed by BOTW 2, just play something else.
Maybe some Ryan games. 😆

Pretty sure Weapon durability will return, but they might have revamped it a bit to adress complaints like that. I am sure that the mobs will stay the same as well, since we have only seen those in the trailer, surely there will be a few new ones but the basic design is obviously the same.
I just hope they improve the dungeons and boss designs personally, i can always understand the criticism though, it really comes down to what you personally enjoy.
Pretty sure that the people who disliked the first wont be too happy about the second either

I think BOTW2 will add Zelda into the fray to play her part in the game as well. That in itself would be something different what her stats and weapons and magic will reveal that will be the biggest upside to playing BOTW2 you can switch or stop at different story points to met or change different scenario to continue each other's story quest. That probably will bring in female player for Zelda if that is the case here as well. So they could be creating the female gamer side of BOTW2 and I be glad they do that to get more people into BOTW2 gaming.

I personally believe BoTW 2 will be WAY more action based. I think the first game was about exploration and world/lore buliding, while the scecond will be more focused on action and the actual overarching storyline. I think it'll be a VERY different beast in a similar way that OoT and MM shared the same game engine, characters, and timeline, but had entirely different world structure and gameplay.

Everyone on here is gonna pretend they are a dev on the game and speak as if everything is set in stone.

Nobody even considers: Will there even be the same kind of weapon system like we saw in BotW1 at all? There may not. Durability may be just one small thing that has the potential to change in the weapons.

@Snaplocket It won't be a dual release with the next console. Skyward Sword and Majora's Mask weren't. I'm tired of people having this same notion, because the first game was like this. The next console is probably still a ways off anyways, given the shortages that are industry wide.
