@meppi64. Yea SE bought GA. They fairly recently released Grandia 3 on PS3 PSN. Got a $10 card off play-asia for £8 a few weeks back and it's awesome. Still looks gorgeous. And if your tempted it's worth getting Suikoden III on US PSN which was also never released in the UK.

Personally I would like to see a Enix collection on switch. I was one of the few in the Enix camp and not the Squaresoft camp growing up and there are a few games I'd like to play again.

@ Krull glad to see someone appreciating the ports, totally agree there was nothing wrong with them, I’d have them bought to switch like that if that was the only option.

@Krull You wouldn't be saying that about the ports of V and VI (nothing wrong with IV and IX) if you had the sprites they used in mind. That has everything to do with the mobile port and nothing to do with the PS1 or GBA versions of those games.

@Krull The mobile versions of FFV and FFVI came out before they were released on Steam. They were completely original 'remasters', where is this "based off another reboot" coming from? It's also accentuated by the fact that FFIV got a beautiful remaster for the PSP, which further asks the question of why didn't Square Enix extend the same level of treatment to FFV and FFVI.

Then even if you go beyond Final Fantasy, you get into the Chrono Trigger PC port which is also such a
lazy port from the mobile version that only NOW they're even trying to patch. Why didn't they port the far superior DS version, which IS the definitive version of the game, when they ported the DS version of FFIV to mobile? Square Enix is so backwards with their ports, it baffles the mind.

At least Nintendo has the decency with their ports to provide straight upgrades in resolution while keeping core experiences/feel intact.

I know I've been trashing SE, so I'll leverage some degree of complements to their Secret of Mana remake, where at least they did try to move the game into 3D while adding smoother controls. That's at least some effort put in to more modernize it, even if it wasn't all that good either. They're not completely backwards, but a good chunk of their decisions are just flat-out dumb.

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.

@EvilLucario @MarcelRguez OK, I stand corrected! I guess not all the FF mobile versions are based on others - though they do build on earlier versions by including previously added additional content.

I've heard that the Tose PS1 port of FFVI was even worse than the mobile one, though, so there's that, I suppose. I thought FFIV was a tweaked version of the DS release, but yes, FFVI was an entirely new port - though with all the GBA content (if not the sprites) and without the horrible loading times of the PSN version.

Regardless, it appears you two have ample reason to throw shade at SE. I'm just grateful that I get the chance to play these classics all these years later on a device in my pocket - but I accept those familiar with other iterations will have strong opinions.

Not got FFV (yet), but yeah... It's not very popular everywhere, is it? Still, all the GBA content, again, right?

Chrono Trigger was also absolutely fine on mobile - but I played it before Square Enix made yet another new version, the one which was simultaneously released on Steam and got pelters.

Seriously, there was nothing wrong with ff6. Fine the sprites were not the same, but again that does not change anything. I agree with the sprite look being better but it does not take away from the experience of playing it.
For example, if you played it it for the first ever ( for arguments sake ) you would still think it’s fantastic and looks good enough! Krull and I can accept that but some of you make it out that the sprites are the be all and end all and that’s all there was too final fantasy 6 mobile!

The recent announcement of Dragon Quest 1-3 for Switch had me digging through the rest of S-E's Android/iOS catalogue. After DQ 1-3 it looks like we can expect 4-7 to follow sometime later. And although S-E prioritized FF7-FF9, FF1-FF6 could also arrive eventually. What other S-E games have Android/iOS ports?

Final Fantasy Tactics
Chrono Trigger
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Chaos Rings III
Life Is Strange

Lots to look forward to...for a nominal fee.

S-E isn't going to serve up FF6 or Chrono Trigger to NSO for free.

@Magician Actually, it's more like DQ4-6 and DQ8 are ready to make the jump to Switch. There is a mobile port of DQ7 but, as far as I'm aware, it's not available in English. Also, given how disappointing its sales were on 3DS, I'm not sure Square really cares to throw any more money at that particular title.

I'm sure we'll see most of these mobile ports at some point - actually pretty surprised that Life Is Strange hasn't made the leap yet. Chaos Rings should stay on mobile, IMO - not that it's not worthy of a wider appreciation, just that it's already in its natural home. I'd love more people to play Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, though. Such a weird game. Still have it on PSP.

Not that interested in the mobile ports, personally. (I actually have lots of them.) As for old Squenix titles
I'd really like to see, I'll put in a word for Chrono Cross. Time for a reappraisal. Think Tomb Raider deserves another mention, too. But I guess, who needs Lara Croft when you've got Link?

Since all my other asks have been met (FF7-9) my next request is Parasite Eve. The tease of Aya in the FF7 remake background gives me some hope

Illusion of Gaia and EVO Search for Eden either on the SNES app or eshop releases. Love those games.

Have I ever expressed my desire to have Kingdom Hearts on Switch? No? Didn't think so.

Man, I’m really hoping for this to be announced soon. It was my main wish for the Direct we just had. It would be a shame for this series to die on the 3DS.

Fingers crossed they have HD assets for the pre-rendered backgrounds so we can avoid same thing as the blurry FF ports. They’re pretty recent games so hopefully their archiving has improved.

Terranigma (SNES, 1996) 10/10
A masterpiece. Has not been re-released in any form yet.
It's well-known that it is the third in a trilogy that started with SoulBlazer (SNES) and continued with Illusion of Time (SNES). I'd like to buy these two as well because I never played them, even though I know they can't be in the same league.
Since VC isn't a thing anymore, a trilogy on cartridge (Collection of Mana-style) would be the right fit.

Mischief Makers (N64, 1997) 10/10
I envy the game. I would love to develop something like this myself!
Why aren't there games like this anymore? This was the last of its kind, and for me it wiped out literally every 2D action-platformer I ever played with its tight gameplay, perfect level designs, spot-on controls, and its neverending flow of surprise and variety. To this very day, nothing had ever come close.
All the Mega Mans, Contras, Castlevanias, Turricans, Metal Slugs, and [whatever I can think of that would be comparable] are just pebbles in the light of this diamond.

ActRaiser 3
A new ActRaiser in the style of ActRaiser 1. That SolSeraph game is nothing like it.

Terranigma will be the highest on my list, both as a personal want as well as American fans finally being able to enjoy it... Unless it has already been released there on a different platform by now, not sure.

To this day it baffles me that this was a EU/AU only English release.
