Topic: What would you want from F-Zero on Switch?

For me the two games I've played the most are F-Zero on SNES and F-Zero GX. I kind of want a new Switch game to be colourful like the original, but have story mode stuff like GX.

In terms of gameplay I believe GX is a good starting point. However I'd like them to remove snaking, I just don't find it fun and it looks weird.

In terms of characters, I think it would be cool to see some obscure Nintendo characters turn up as unlockable racers. Captain Rainbow, Sylux, Pigma Dengar. Characters not so on the nose as Mario or Link, but that could fit with the F-zero world.

@Wargoose I'd really like to see a new f-zero too. But did you hear news somewhere about a new one?

Battle royale.

One racer (last place) eliminated every lap, not including ring-outs.

@Magician That's a good idea, I remember a game called Splitsecond that had a similar mode.

@Wargoose I like all your ideas for F-Zero and I'd only add lower difficulty compared to GX.

@Magician There was a similar combat thing doing 360ยบ in F-Zero X and I liked it.

Iโ€™d personally want:

  • Multiplayer mode, either separate tracks for each player, or one huge one for both of them
  • online mode, with 8 or more players racing on separate tracks
  • Better vehicle options and character customization
  • a reason to keep playing, like leaderboards or each race you win coins or something like so
  • 100+ tracks each with customization
  • customization mode for the tracks, so ones can make or change any track they want using items or tracks from the game
  • A huge hub world to drive in

Please NO HUB world... no open world.... I want tracks... nothing fancy... being able to crash out.... no real attacks other than driving into people....

Things I would like to see

A crossover with Starfox

A deep single player campaign. A Galactic League, spread across multiple planets/ solar systems, making friends and enemies along the way. With each system having its own hub planet that you can freely explore and meet traders to buy and sell parts for your vehicle/craft

Land and space racing

Online leagues, where you can form your own racing team

I need a reason to play F-Zero over Mario Kart. Something that's mechanically different about it aside from being just another generic driving game. And no, automatically losing if you crash isn't good enough. I want to do something other than drive, brake, boost, and drift, that seems to be the end all be all of 90% of all racers and it's very tiring.

Reprise

Just F-Zero GX remastered and in HD. Nothing more, nothing less. That game is literally perfection and if they make a brand new F-Zero I'm worried it just won't be as good.

@Mintendoll If I remember correctly, F-Zero GX had a lives system (that's probably a staple of the series, but it's been at least a couple of decades since I played the other games in the series). I think having a difficulty mode that did away with that would probably make it more accessible.

Although this does sound a bit sacrilegious. GX being hard was one of the best things about it. It made it one of the most rewarding video games I have ever played. I seem to remember back in the day I beat all the cups on all the difficulty settings. The story / mission mode was one thing I could never complete though.

Ultimately, for it to retain the feel of F-Zero GX. That game had the core gameplay pretty much nailed, so as long as it retains and builds on that, I'll probably be satisfied with any potential new title.

Only problem i had with GX was the crushing difficulty. I never did unlock everything in that game for that very reason. Tone it down or make it more accessible and that's all i ask. A large selection of tracks and racers is also a good idea.

@Reprise

This ^. Fzero GX is still pure perfection.

@Jelster Yeah, I still play it every now and again. It's definitely one of my favourite games on the Gamecube.

@Apportal if its small like NintendoLand then fine. But I don't see the appeal and I don't want to overcomplicate things.

I'd like a 1080p 60fps F zero X with 8 player wireless local play.

jump

Iโ€™d mainly want Shin'en Multimedia to make it. They are already making F-Zero games and them using characters from F-Zero to the existing gameplays will add personality to it.

@Bolt_Strike F-zero has always felt pretty different from Mario Kart due to the lack of items and the focus on speed and tight turns. Powersliding feels pretty different in the two. Mario Karts is all about long sweeping drifts to get boost, F-zero is about sharper turning.

It'd be cool if they made more of the unique characters in F-zero maybe character specific bonus objectives to complete in races. Also maybe they could do something with Pit Crews, to recover energy or get vehicle upgrades mid race. That might be unique, and also add more personality to each character.
