Recently I read

that its not possible to replace the battery of the switch. I am no tech expert, but batteries dont last forever, and if the battery comes to an end, what do you do? Do you have to buy a new switch? It may sound a little bit ridiculous but given the pricing policies I got worried that this might be real. The battery might as long as two years (I believe it will) and then the warranty will be definitely over, do you have to send it in for a costly repair or just buy a new nintendo switch? That would be an interesting thing to know.

You send it to Nintendo so they can exchange it. Or a phone repair shop should be able to replace it.

How do you know that? Any source?

Sounds like a lot of hassle involved and ultimately more money that I have to spend on it? Is that what your implying?

Matter of fact this seems like an important topic? Because, lets say sending in the switch and having nintendo replacing the battery will cost lets say a total of 140$, that would mean buying a new switch which comes with two joycons and a docking station for the switch might be economically the better decision? Look, I am not really stingy, I bought two spare wii u because I like the system and its games so much, so its not really about the money, but still I really want to know what I am getting into and what awaits me once the warranty is over, more money that I will have to pay?

I wouldn't be too worried about the battery. The battery is replaceable in the Wii U Gamepad, but outside of switching it for the higher capacity battery, have you ever needed to take it out or replace it?

If the battery were to fail, then you would need to send it to Nintendo to replace, and there would probably be a moderate fee. But I would guess that the likelihood of that happening during the console's lifetime is low.

Thats what I hope. Actually I havent been playing that much with the wii u gamepad - only when necessary. I prefer the pro controller. Besides I play lots of ds/3ds games.
Its just something that I would like to know, what happens if...
The thing is, times have changed, back in the day it was totally ok to repair something like a tv or any other household appliance. Nowadays the system has been rigged to just buy a new product because the repair very often exceeds its worth. And like I said, if you think about the costs of the switch, joy cons 80$, docking station 90$, that leaves 110$ for the portable, probably less. So if an expensive battery replacement might be involved it changes things. Of course, nobody talks about it because this will happen in the far future. But still its good to know what you are getting into.

I wouldn't worry about it. Surely Nintendo wouldn't make people buy a whole new Switch for something as simple as a battery. The chances that you'd need a replacement for the whole generation are pretty low, anyway.

I am not too worried. However, the nintendos pricing policy and possible hidden costs have reached a level that I didnt expect and this battery replacement or rather the lack of it seems a little fishy to me.

Of course it wouldnt dissuade me from buying a switch in the long run. To me its all about games - but still I would feel a little bit foolish if those games I want to play come at an unreasonably high cost. Really, its not about the money I bought Warioland - the shake dimension (new and sealed) for about 55 EUR this week. Its a ten year old game which is definitely not a killer app or a must have - I just wanted to own it for my collection and have fun with what it is - thats how crazy I am when it comes to nintendo - but on the other hand its an old and rare game in sealed condition - thats what made me pay that price.

If I recall they even once claimed the Wii U game pad battery cant be replaced ether, but it can be. I'm betting the same is true here.

My 3DS battery has never been replaced, nor is it showing signs it may need to be anytime soon.

It is just not something I am worried about.

Switch games list,

Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.
