I'm perfectly fine with the NX name (or abbreviation). It sounds cool thanks to the X (like Xbox), does feature the N of Nintendo and it is different from Wii, which is a good start for changing their "only casual games" reputation.
They will likely change the name which is a bad idea imop. Nx is already firmly in the mind of gamers and hobbyists. To change it now will mean starting all over with name recognition.
Thinking about what the NX is and with a thesaurus open here are some ideas:
Anywhere, Everywhere, Ubiquitous, Portable, Compact, Handy, Go, Move, Travel, Carry, Split, Share, Partition, Unite, Link, Join, Unity, Unify, Connect
Some of those aren't particularly good but they are ideas. As a branding thing? Some of them are lame as hell but could work very well indeed. As a home console that's portable? I can imagine having a pretty good ad campaign around a product called the "Nintendo Handy". The tag line writes itself. "Do you have your Nintendo Handy?".
Some of these words could work on a different level. For example calling it the "Nintendo Unity" would work because it explains itself in the name. Something Nintendo tries to do but hasn't really done well. It's a similar deal with Go as overused as that is.
Anyways, the point is that there are a lot of things they could call it rather than NX.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
NX would be a cool name, although I'm sure what it exactly stands for (if anyone knows, hit me up). It likely won't stay as the NX, but I just hope they come up with something a bit more inspired than Wii or Wii U.
There was a rumour floating on 4chan (a few weeks ago) about the system being called the "Nintendo Focus". Whether true or not I'm unsure if it's a great name or a terrible one.
Nintendo don't usually stick with their project names but in this case I think they should. We've been talking about "NX" for nearly 18 months. I think it would be a bit daft to change it, although I suspect Nintendo will.
But whats in the minds of the enthusiasts, is a fantasy built on certain peoples (leakers and the famous nephew of a certain uncle that works deep in Nintendo lair) words.
If it is something different to which we would expect, a name change is crucial.
NX won't be the final name. Kimishima said the name NX had no meaning. A new name will allow them to start with a fresh slate and marketing strategy. And Nintendo have never used a console's project name as its final name.
Nintendo GameLEON. Lifes(Living) Entertainment On Nintendo. The name could suit as the NX is supposed to have the ability to change form a bit like a chameleon. Unfortunately, I did a search and Gameleon.net already exists, they are "The online networking hub for members of the videogame industry´s press corps."
