Well, I'm glad that people are getting their Pokemon Snap sequel. As for me, I really thought the game would need to evolve a bit to get me excited. It was a fun little game back in 1999, but the on-rails experience just doesn't get me excited for a 2020 game. I wanted an open adventure.
Surprisingly, it's been developed by BANDAI NAMCO Studios.
I'm not surprised that HAL Laboratory aren't developing it, although they have the 1999 copyright.

Tbh adding an open world didn't really add much to SwSh in the end and if it's on rails it will ensure specific cool looking moments in the game for people to snap.
@jump I never said "open world". Although open world would have been even better, I don't expect that kind of budget for a side-game. What I'm really thinking of is at least on the level of a standard old adventure game like 3D Zelda's pre-BOTW.
The on-rails style just made everything the same level over and over again. That's all the original Pokemon Snap was, and although it was amusing to me for a while when I was like 10, I don't think it would be too much at 31. It's not a game I have ever really wanted to go back to.
An adventure game where you are free to go explore different areas where you can find different Pokemon to photograph, now that would have been beautiful.

Yeah, free roam would've been great in this type of game. If you could hide in the grass or foliage to get close to the Pokemon for the perfect pictures. But alas...
Switch Physical Collection - 1,252 games (as of April 30th, 2024)

I can't wait to play this one. I loved the original although it was a tad on the short side. I imagine there will be a decent amount of content this time, I just hope that it's not all DLC.
Also, I'm low-key loving the "New" part of the title.
I heard New Pokemon Snap is developed by Bandai Namco so i really hope there will be a physical release especially Asia region as my country Indonesia got some Asia release of Switch games that distributed by Bandai Namco at South East Asia division (FF X/X-2, FF XII TZA, Chocobo Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy, World of Final Fantasy MAXIMA)
I can't even believe it. This is the first Pokemon game I ever played, and the first N64 game I ever owned, I can't believe its back omg.
Though I don't know why they put New in the title, the game looks way too visually interesting to be a Nintendo game with New at the start of its title :V

In my mind, this is a good thing. The only company that does gameplay better than Bandai-Namco is Nintendo themselves (which makes sense given it's a merger of an arcade company and a toy company, which are basically the two industries that got Nintendo into video games as well).
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
Has there been a confirmation that this is the official title, or is it a working title? "New" seems weird to use, but this isn't the first crazy title out there. XD
I'm pretty hyped. I played the original Pokemon Snap 2-3 years ago via the Wii U VC and enjoyed the experience. The slightly dated N64 graphics didn't bother me at all, and it showcased some interesting mechanics I haven't seen often. My only major complaint was that it was pretty short.
If I recall correctly, the original had some pretty complex mechanisms to unlock / find all the pokemon. Would be nice to have alternate paths / some directional agency. And gyro!
@Harmonie That said, I'm surprised at how excited I was to hear this revealed as a 32yo. I ended up watching the stream while doing something else, and this was the most exciting title to me, surprisingly so.
