Star fox a series that needs some fresh life . I could imagine a game a bit like mass effect. You go from planet to planet to save the world flying aswell as plenty of ground action. A deep story but a lot more light hearted. Maybe a multi player with maps from each planet.. what do people think would love to hear your ideas

Star Fox Assault 2 would be exactly what I want!! Great series and while Zero may not have been outstanding it was still good fun and a Zero style sequel could work as well.

Agreed. Star Fox Zero is a really underrated game that got it's bad rep mostly from it's wanky controls. Which tbh once you got the hang of them after a while they weren't really that detrimental to the experience. But most people unfortunately didn't get past the learning curve and dismissed the game early on.
On topic, i believe that as a franchise Star Fox really needs to step up and make it's mark at some point since we're at 2018 and the best entry in the series is still widely considered to be Star Fox 64. Shame cause there's so much potential there.

@Syndrome I agree it's now or never for the franchise. If the next Star Fox doesn't change the formula significantly and take it to the next level then Star Fox is doomed to go the way of other franchises and be forgotten and will exist solely to provide Smash characters.

Nice to see like minded people. It's a franchise that has so much potential

I would like a more open world approach, make it to where I can fly to any planet whenever I feel like it, they could take a page out of Assault and let me use other vehicles on the ground. An option to get new ships, along with customization would be nice as well. I would be fine if they went balls to the walls crazy with ideas, as long as it doesn’t stray that far away from series norm like Adventures did.

Just a geek that likes video games, and spends to much time playing Smash Bros. and Fortnite.

@bluemage1989 Exactly. And since Nintendo didn't hesitate to update the formula on the big guns like Zelda and Mario i don't see why they wouldn't dare to do the same on a lesser known IP such as Star Fox. Like i said, the potential is there.

I feel like Star Fox should've gone the way of Rogue Squadron or Crimson Skies a long time ago. It would be a perfect fit, especially as a way to add content between the on-rail sections.

And I feel so bad for Zero. It was SO close to being a return to form, but it went too far in one direction for controls and then not far enough for level ideas or quantity.

I think the only thing I was disappointed with Zero with was the lack of an online multiplayer. And I'm not even a big online gamer at all really, but being able to play something akin to Lylat Wars/Starfox 64 against people from around the world was really, really appealing to me. Shame.

The problem with Star Fox is, due to the disaster that was Star Fox Zero, how many more years will it be until Nintendo looks at the idea of creating a new Star Fox game?

@Yorumi That's Nintendo's big problem with games - they always seem to think they know what people want, and when they don't get it right - they assume it's because people don't want said franchise. Star Fox being a great example. I am kinda surprised they are making a new Metroid Prime as that has never been the biggest selling series. But then you look at Wave Race and F-Zero and see how Nintendo really seems uninterested.

Something I think that could be really cool is taking some notes from other action games like Bayonetta to increase the replayability factor even more. Bayonetta doesn't just give you one set of weapons and let you have at it. You have a ton of different weapons to use that mix up your playstyle, and you can mix and match to a degree as well. Apply the same to Star Fox: new Arwings to unlock, new subweapons, different lasers, the works.

A potential idea that comes to mind would be not just letting us only use Arwings for certain planets. For example, take a planet like Zoness. If you don't want to play with an Arwing, give the option to play with the Blue Marine for a completely different experience that can also lead to different paths that way. If you're primarily in a land-based planet like Corneria, you can play with a Landmaster if you don't want to play with an Arwing. Etc.

The arcade-style gameplay can still work in modern day, just like how games like Bayonetta can thrive, but it needs a lot more meat and experimentation. Going back to the roots and rebooting for the 100th time doesn't fly anymore.

Multiplayer, I got nothing because I'm not terribly big on multiplayer except for certain games.

@Yorumi Yeah, like I'm not even a terribly huge fan of Star Fox but even (mostly) as an outsider, there's enough to keep the series evolving and better but still staying true with that people expect from a Star Fox game. I think that adding more meat to the actual flying combat while also upping the ante of enemy strength could be fantastic. Zero had an inkling of that idea with that classic Arwing with no lock-on and the black Arwing that's like a "berserker" type, but Nintendo should expand on that with the next game.

Maybe the best thing Nintendo could do is have another company like Platinum or Namco have a go at the franchise and see what they could do with it.

bluemage1989

FragRed

@bluemage1989 Isn't that what they did with Star Fox Zero? Platinum Games made that game didn't they, albeit with Nintendo overseeing it.

@FragRed I don't remember much about the development but I thought Nintendo designed and developed with Platinum there to assist with the grunt work like I said don't remember much about the development so could easily be wrong. In my experience it didn't feel like the game Platinum would make if given the freedom to take in there own direction. Namco also did a great job with Assault. They were just two companies of the top of my head I think there's a few who could do a good job.

@kkslider5552000 I referenced Bayonetta earlier, but Uprising was also a very good model for a new Star Fox and had that insane customizability I mentioned. As a non-Star Fox fan, I really enjoyed Uprising's take on aerial combat and ground combat, with more buttons, can make for really good ground sections.

It could be a mix of Bayonetta and Vanquish, except much slower paced and better balanced for Star Fox.

@Demigod1451 From my understanding the last Star Fox game bombed. So it will probably be a while before we see another title. But I think you are right, a major reboot would be the right choice. Giving the game a deep, but kid-friendly story would be a great improvement. As a big Mass Effect fan, the comparison is very appealing to me. But I think they would need to avoid the ME style of conversation choices and focus on making known characters have defined and interesting personalities.

star fox needs a better reboot that expands the world of star fox in some way similar to what kid icarus uprising did. That one game put more life into kid icarus than all the star fox games combined. A new star fox needs to have in the first five levels: 1. beat andross. 2. defeat the aparoids. After those parts have something crazy like hades showing up or something with like 25 more levels.
