Just a PSA. A physical release for this collection was leaked today.

Doom
Doom II
Doom 3 BFG
Doom 64
Doom 2016

Unfortunately, the file size is 32.2 GB according to the Murican eShop listing. So unless this will be the first Switch physical release to use a 64 GB cartridge (which I doubt), purchasers will have to download a heafty chunk of data. Unless...Bethesda has customers download the Doom 2016 multiplayer mode as they did with the first physical release of Doom 2016, which was just under 8 GB of data.

If Bethesda opted to do that, then all five games will be "complete" on a 32 GB cartridge.

We'll find out when someone poses the question on Doom's twitter.

I see no point in wasting a 32GB cart if any one of the games is incomplete.

They could probably fit them all if they include the entirety of DOOM 2016, but only Version 1.0 of the remaining games (as updates have added some bizarrely high heft to the classic DOOM games), but I would rather they didn't.

And at a slightly cheaper US$50, I really can't see Bethesda springing for a 32GB cart. They're already proven time and time again that they're shameless cheapskates, even in the face of success.

The PS4/Xbox release only included the base DOOM 2016 game (I don't know if the disc included Version 1.0 or if was updated) with the rest of the games included as download codes. Going off that, I think that this will include the same barebones DOOM 2016 cartridge with the remaining games thrown in as download codes. Either that or the trilogy cartridge as released by LRG (as Best Buy sometimes sells LRG carts).

IF, however, this includes the complete version of DOOM 2016 on a 32GB cartridge, then I will happily double-dip.

I've been hearing talk in some collecting communities that I follow that it's been confirmed the cartridge is just Doom 2016's campaign, just like its previous physical release. The other four games and 2016's multiplayer are all additional downloads. I do think it's nice that this is an option for people who missed 2016 before it went out of print, but it would have been nice to have the whole series (minus Eternal, although that one would be great too) on one cart. I've already got 2016 and 64 on my shelf with the 1-3 Collector's Edition pre-ordered, so I'd personally pass, but a complete on-cart collection would be an amazing value. I do believe that 2016 on the disc and the other games as downloads is how the PS4/Xbox physical collections worked as well.

@VIIIAxel I heard that as well if so forget even getting this game. Eternal was already a disaster when they killed the Cart option and went Digital because they loved screwing over Switch owners. And alot I heard dumped their preorder because of it.

Just bumping this up in case anybody picks this up at retail and can confirm whether or not DOOM 2016 is in its entirety on the cartridge (patches and all).

I would've opted to be the guinea pig if September's release schedule wasn't repeatedly mudhole stomping me. Hopefully someone else grabs a copy and chimes in.

The rear of the U.S. packaging indicates a 32GB download requirement. Factoring the update size for DOOM 2016 and the additional games (which totals to around 29GB), I'm guessing that it's just a repackaging of the previous cartridge, and not a new 32GB cartridge with the entirety of DOOM 2016 on it.

I'm less concerned whether or not the entirety of Doom 2016 is on the cartridge and more keen to discover if version 1.2 of the offline campaign is on the cartridge. If I remember correctly, the performance update was less than 500MB, so I'm hopeful that's the version baked in.

@Magician : It won't. Anything past Version 1.0 will require the bulk of the update either way. It won't be possible for them to merely update the single-player portion of the game as those fixes are part of the 8GB+ update, unless they produce a separate build specifically for this cartridge (and they won't).

Even in the case of a 32GB cartridge with everything on there, if Bethesda hypothetically issued Version 1.3 with further fixes, you still need to download the entirety of the updates regardless of what version is on the cartridge, (or how negligible the update is). Updates are always in bulk. I assume that this is to ensure that the game will work regardless of how out-of-date or up-to-date your cartridge may be (and I have only known Nintendo to issue updated cartridges for their releases in subsequent prints).

@Silly_G Fair enough. Although that's assuming the performance update was extended to the multiplayer portion, which constitutes the bulk of the 8GB download. Do we know that for certain that is was?

Yes. Version 1.1 was the day one update (which included online multiplayer), whereas Version 1.2 had come along some time later, which included performance improvements, video capture capability, gyro controls, and fixed the audio dropout bug.

Just so you know, Nintendo isn't the only publisher to issue updated cartridges. Fangamer with the updated second print of Hollow Knight, with all DLC on cartridge, is a good example. Although I admit I'm not certain what the overall file size for Hollow Knight + DLC is. Fangamer might have used the same size cartridge regardless.

For the version available in the UK, the box states, "Contains Download Code to access DOOM, DOOM II, DOOM 64 and DOOM 3"
(According to Game's website)

So, basically just the same as the normal version. Just a new box + a download code for the other games.

The games are great, the conversions are awesome, it's just a shame that the production management does not seem to respect the game's quality, its iconic status, and the fan demand.

It basically replaces the old one by including the downloads without or without much extra-cost.
And us, the potential double-dippers wouldn't get anything new out of it.

However, there's a separate DOOM trilogy box out there, isn't it? That's the one to take into consideration. I wouldn't mind the DOOM Slayers Collection anymore. It's just trying to milk the franchise in the cheapest way possible. The situation is almost as embarassing as DOOM ETERNAL being download only.

@SKTTR That is why I am glad that I ordered the Doom Classics collection from LRG. The only DooM left for physical release is DooM Eternal Maybe in 2022 or 2023.

Until Doom Eternal comes Physical I will not buy the slayer just to be screwwed over when I got it Digital right now because of the PreOrder Bonus.

I seriously doubt DOOM Eternal is ever coming to Switch physically now, especially since id have apparently moved onto their next game and Microsoft probably don't want to waste too many resources that aren't related to developing games for their platforms

@TheFrenchiestFry

Without knowing the file size for part two of the Doom Eternal DLC on Switch (part one + base game = 24.12GB), I'm 55/45 Limited Run will pull the trigger on the 32GB cartridge and ask customers to pay an obscene amount. $100 ($60 base game, $30 season pass, $10 for 32GB cartridge) for everything on cartridge and $300 for some gaudy overpriced collectors edition.

Confirmation, Doom Slayers Collection has version 1.0 on the cartridge.

Most unfortunate. Oh well, $50 saved I suppose.

Like I said, the 32GB download disclaimer on the packaging more or less confirmed it.

If Bethesda had done the decent thing and put the entirety of the game on the cartridge, then they would have had enough room to squeeze DOOM 3 in as well.

I'm confident that a complete DOOM Eternal cart will come along, but via LRG, as Bethesda wouldn't have the guts to publish such a release themselves.

I'm also happy that Bethesda themselves hadn't issued a physical release so far as the game would have been incomplete on cartridge, not to mention the DLC obviously wouldn't have been on the cartridge either.

This way, we get a best case scenario, with absolutely everything on the cart, even if it means that the DOOM Eternal cartridge will likely be more expensive than normal.
