Eh, P-A has a bad habit of creating landing pages and/or opening preorders for things that never materialize. Chances are D2 will be digital-only regardless of region.

the other day they said that there would be no TCP/IP multiplayer eventhough they said there would be. not too butthurt about it as my pc gaming days are behind me but it doesn't bode well. who knows on what else they might change their opinion

@SonOfVon
They (Blizzard) are just destroying themselves left and right these days.

Aside from everything else going on at their company right now, did they not learn from the reaction to the Warcraft III remaster? That thing was missing tons of stuff they promised, and now it's practically dead in the water.

Maybe they will decide to delay by a bit to get it right, or at least get it to what they said it would include.

Hmm, seems Diablo II Resurrected has been delisted from P-A.

No Southeast Asian release then; looks as though it will be digital-only.

Oh well, I suppose I'll add it to the wishlist around release and just wait for a deep discount.

After playing the open beta this weekend... meh. It's a faithful port/refresh, but nothing mechanical/gameplay wise has changed, and it's definitely showing its age. Feels super stiff compared to Diablo III and other modern competition.

It's a no for me, dawg.

Not awfully surprising though.

So D2R just launched! Anyone bought the game? If so can someone confirm how many characters can you make in single player? Is there a limit?

Zuljaras

@Tasuki You have to link you bnet acc to authenticate the game.

I bought the game yesterday even if I hate digital only games but this is Diablo 2 after all!
On the Switch we have a limit of 30 character slots for Single player This is stupid and I want more slots!

If anyone here bought the game for PS4 PLEASE try and see how many OFFLINE characters you can create. I really need this information and I do not want to buy the game for PS4 in order to check this.

On PC currently you can create infinite number of offline characters.

Tasuki

@Zuljaras Thanks for the reply, looks like I will be passing on this one since I no longer remember by battle net info.

It’s a great game, I’ve been having server issues though so far, which kicks you out of the game if you’ve got an online character.

If people enjoy this - then power to them, but I just find this game and all other releases like it very odd. I get that nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but more than other media mediums I'd argue, a game can be a masterpiece in the year it was released and be garbage just a few years later. Videogames are constantly evolving, with innovation and quality of life improvements. I gave this a chance, but just bounced off it instantly. ARPGs have come such a long way from where this was two decades ago, I just don't see the point of releasing it. There are so many QOL tweaks they could have made, that wouldn't alter the flow of the game, but would just make it less of a frustrating PITA to play. I guess I admire their steadfastness in replicating the experience as it was when it was released. But it just feels like a weird con as well, to disregard all of the strides the genre has taken and say it is on purpose.

I was always interested in the series, but couldn't play them because none of them were on a Nintendo console!

I think if you have absolutely no experience with modern ARPGs, you might enjoy it. All these years later, the depth of the character building in the game remains true, you may be able to tune into that strength without tripping on the gameplay shortcomings, as you won't know otherwise.

However, if you have played any modern ARPGs and have no nostalgia for this game, I think you will have a really hard time with it.

@Pizzamorg I'm curious, what is this game lacking from a modern perspective? I played it the last time 10 years ago and I remember it holding up well. What has changed since then?

It is not so much lacking necessarily, it just does a lot of stuff that we've just kinda moved passed from. Like the way consumables and your inventory are managed. How death is managed. And just in the moment to moment gameplay. Your attacks are really slow, the PC version doesn't even have a hotbar (I think the Switch version does), you have a stamina system you need to manage as well. There is a degradation system which might have been in Diablo 3 I can't really remember? But it just feels so oppressive here.

@Tasuki Neat!
As i said, i'll might check it out someday.
Thanks for the info!

I really like Diablo 3, at least in terms of the place it landed and I hear the Switch port is great.

I don't think these are dated, or even problematic.
Death is handled almost the same as in Dark Souls and Hollow Knight, two popular recent games. Dark Souls and even BOTW have a Stamina meter as well. Also, the Belt actually acts as a hotbar for potions and scrolls.

Of course there is nothing wrong with disliking these things, but they aren't really a symptom of a dated game, given that these elements are still common in high quality games.

(no hotbar for skills, a hotbar for a potion is a problem in itself)

I mean the barrel has no bottom when it comes to gamer complaints. Once upon a time I would have said surely no one would praise a game for being slower, clunkier and more inconvenient than it's counterparts/successors but then I got into Monster Hunter, where many fans will treat streamlining as a crime.

I know there will be a niche for this, especially as nostalgia is such of a hell of a drug, but to me Diablo 2 just feels like a complete relic. Things like stamina, degradation, dragging potions onto a hot bar and having to scavenge them from the map, were all unnecessary barriers to a much faster, fluid and fun ARPG experience so they were rightly excised. Additions, like proper inventory space and management systems and hotbars for skills are just something you can't go back to not having, if you've experienced them in other games.

The APRG genre have moved so far passed and beyond it, I see no value in the title at all, especially as someone who has no nostalgia for the original. If you want Diablo 2 like depth, but in a more modern ARPG framework, I highly recommend picking up Last Epoch on PC.
