That reminds me of some Harvest Moon games, that use "them" to refer to all your farm animals. Including the ones that are clearly most definitely female
@Eel Harvest Moon is also the same game where you get milk and eggs from literally every animal you buy though so maybe the animals really are gender neutral in that world!
I sure hope you're not including pets and horses there! (funnily enough, in DS you could actually trick the horse into giving you milk)
It's interesting though, some of the games do delve into the nitty gritty of things. Like Harvest Moon GBC 3, and A Wonderful Life, where you actually need to keep a male around to produce more animals. A Wonderful Life goes one step further, with cows only giving milk for a limited period of time after giving birth.

Anyhow sorry for the weird tangent!
I did not know that some farming sims have that realism in them. That is nice!
@JasmineDragon oh, didn't know that, haven't played Pokémon since the 5th gen but not cause I don't want to, but because of monetary reasons haha. That's cool tho! Cause yeah, those games were pretty much gendered.
I also found an article that there is canonically a trans character in Pokémon X/Y called Nova. It's just one line of one very minor character: "I was a Karate King just half a year ago; the power of medical science is awesome, wouldn’t you say?!" Sadly, that was kinda censored in the English version, and well, it's a very veeery minor character.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I don't mind being called 'they' because it's a neutral pronoun that people use in general speech anyway. But yes, the best thing would be to have a non-binary option or just let players choose their pronouns.
Does Final Fantasy IX count as there is a character referred to as "(s)he".
I don't remember what you're specifically referring to, but probably...?
In my experience, if something can at least be reasonably interpreted as queer, there's a good chance some queer people will really appreciate it (especially in older media, where having to be subtle about it was often a requirement).

There's actually a neat thing from Xseed going into the process of getting this in the game, since they were the ones really pushing for it. I've always loved Xseed since they localized some of the most underappreciated games from the mid to late Wii and DS era but they still do some of the best work.
