Topic: Why on earth is Nintendo being so quiet?

We've just heard about a new CEO, new corporate restructuring, a major game delayed, rumours about a new system, club nintendo closing, a 2DS price cut, major new virtual console games on their way, a Miiverse redesign, a major new partnership with google in Pokemon Go, a new loyalty programme about to be launched, a new hybrid game system about to be launched...

...I wouldn't call that quiet!

Another reason it feels so quiet is because of the staggered release dates for Yoshi's Woolly World, Fire Emblem Fates, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. Such large gaps in release really cools off the hype and the games don't have have that brand new feel because they have been available elsewhere for so long.

We are also not getting a Pokemon game this year. To fill the gap on one of Nintendo's biggest franchise, they are pushing Yokai-Watch, a game that was released over TWO YEARS ago in Japan.

Currently Playing: SMITE, ROTTR, Halo 5: Guardians (XB1), Xenoblade Chronicles X (WiiU), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 2 (3DS)

@OorWullie:
That's because the press and 3rd party developers hounded them claiming they were abandoning the Wii U only a year in.
This forced Nintendo break their silence to show they were developing games for Wii U and not abandoning the system as the press and 3rd parties were reporting.

@DekuOnion:
Mainline Pokemon games typically have been released every other year until the end of DS and till present due to TPC switching to a global release schedule.
There should be one for 2016 by summer.

Yokai-Watch was an issue due to Level 5 not having the man power to localize the game globally, forcing them to go hammer out a deal with Nintendo over it.
Nintendo is doing most of the heavy lifting of Yokai-Watch in the West, becoming the publisher.

If Level 5 had gotten over itself and went to Nintendo at the beginning we wouldn't have to wait 2 years to get it in the West.

You best be trollin. None of that is new except the Pokemon Go & Miiverse redesign and you said new system coming up twice. Miiverse = who cares. Pokemon Go = way to early get excited. We heard they got a new CEO and then they got silent again. Virtual Console is almost always on it's way. Loyalty program news is well over a year old. 2DS price cut? Yawn.

@Dankykong: but just because you're trying to dismiss all that and don't care about it doesn't mean it didn't happen lol. people are whining about a 100 year old company not tweeting them daily to remind them they're making stuff. it's absolutely ridiculous.

maybe if it's so quiet you should go play some games and turn the volume up.... i'm sure you haven't finished everything you've picked up this year.

I get that we're annoyed of the news drought, I am as well, but I find it strange that so many of us are so negative to the game line-up for 2016! I know we have different tastes, but so far in 2015 I've bought these games:

Captain Toad
Splatoon
Mario Maker
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

And that's it for games that excited me this year, I'll also get Xenoblade Chronicles X.

As for games I'm going to buy in 2016:
Zelda U
Pokken Tournament
the inevitable Pokémon game for 3DS
Metroid Prime: Federation Force
Fire Emblem Fates

That's the exact same number as this year. As I said, I know we all have different taste, but to me 2016 looks good.

In other words, you will ignore any news you don't care about?

I come to the website every morning and see a few articles about indie games they are promoting or continued support of their current releases or trailers for whats coming the rest of the year. They aren't being quiet, they just aren't talking about stuff you like. Fans are spoiled in an "E3 is all year" mentality now.

what do sony and microsoft do to appease these people looking for multiple updates daily? y'all like comparing them to nintendo in every way so how about marketing? are they "quiet"? personally i've never heard a peep out of sony or microsoft and couldn't put a single face to any of their executives (bar the obvious one). perhaps we're so spoiled that we forgot satoru iwata passed away and nintendo are going through their biggest reshuffle in 15 years....

Microsoft and Sony have more than themselves speaking for them. They have tons of 3rd Party support and big budget games releasing for their system on a regular basis. Microsoft and Sony don't have to say anything, other companies will speak for them. Nintendo doesn't have too many companies that will do that. There aren't weekly AAA games being released for Nintendo systems currently. We need the information to know the future of our investments. Like you said, they are going through a reshuffle but people who have already invested in Nintendo Hardware and Software are being told to stop complaining about the silence. We don't know what is going on with the Wii U, NX rumors are flying around and no one knows how much longer our investments in their hardware will continue to pay out. We want information and that is not asking to much. We aren't asking for free content, just information.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

you need to know the "future of your investment"? dude it's a video games console, pick the controller up and have fun with it. honestly this kind of thinking is just alarming, you're acting like you have the best interests of the company at heart and you know better than they do, i don't understand this mentality. "we don't know what is going on with the wii u" what are you talking about, there's a gigantic jpeg with a timeline of all their releases over the next few months.. we know EXACTLY what is going on with the wii u, the 3DS, the NX and nintendo in general as a company. we know which fields they are pushing into and which technology they are exploring. what exactly don't you know? "no one knows how long our investment will last" lol my SNES is still going strong as so is every other console i bought after it. why are you so scared of the wii u blowing up or something? it will last as long as you play it..

Honestly I don't see much difference in announcing games now or later. Either way we are more than likely buying them anyway

@martinskrtel37: That is not at all what I am talking about. We paid money for a machine and that is an investment. I am satisfied with the machine personally, but many people aren't. By not commenting on the misinformation floating around Nintendo is telling consumers to stay away from their current line of products. The idea that you should not ask companies for what you want is anti-consumer and causes stagnation in the products or services they provide. We are asking for information, that is all. Just information. We want to know what is coming. Instead Nintendo is letting false information keep headlines for weeks. The consumers are demanding for information and they have a right to do that. Again, we are not asking for free content, just information. You act as if Video Games are just a child's play thing and we should move on but that isn't true. Video Games are how I provide for my family and when information is available, it becomes difficult to make the decisions that could effect me for a long time. This isn't about what customers deserve, it is about what customers want and Nintendo is in charge of delivering that. When they fail to do so, customers become vocal, and that is what we are doing. There is nothing wrong with wanting information.

not commenting on rumors and speculation is somehow bad? mate, if companies spent all day chasing up little youtubers because they made up something about a new direct coming soon, they would shut down within a year. do you actually want nintendo to come out and discuss the stuff that rogers base guy made up or something? they're far too big for something so trivial. you seem to think something like that affects a company like nintendo... man, all that is is a youtuber getting attention, it doesn't somehow mean nintendo are telling people to stay away from their products.

like i just said: we DO know what's coming. didn't you see that giant picture of their release schedule? aren't nintendo always quite transparent with us in their plans, short and medium term? in the past TWO WEEKS ALONE, nintendo have been busy reminding us all of the likes of fatal frame, triforce heroes and the demo codes, splatoon and the splat fests, the new mario tennis, yokai watch, yoshi's wooly world, xenoblade chronicles x....... i mean they're letting you know every day about what's happening in the immediate future. they're fantastic with giving information. at least that's what i see.

you are not seeking information, you are seeking validation. you basically want nintendo to drop down to the level of the every day attention seeking twitter user and waste time swatting away rumours. they are a giant, immensely successful, 100 year old company, why do you want them to act small time like that.

nintendo have people talking about them every single day, people that are literally getting angry because they aren't hearing enough nintendo news. that is nothing but good for nintendo. that is a fantastic position to be in. if you cannot control your anger over not hearing daily updates about your video games machine that is your problem, not nintendos lol.

Meh, I've been done with Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo will have to actually earn my money with NX.

I think there is two bigger questions currently:

1) Do we think Nintendo has a concrete plan going forward and all this silence is part of the plan, or do we think they are in disarray? If they are in disarray, with regards to wooing third parties back, Nintendo direct, advertising, etc.

2). Do you think The New Apple TV will cause a large disruption to PS4, Xbox One, and NX/Wii U over the next 24 months?

I think "bigger" is an overstatement, the answers are pretty damn obvious IMO. For the first one I'm pretty sure that a company as big as Nintendo has a pretty solid plan. If they don't then they are in real trouble. But the fact that they're talking about the NX, making plans with DeNA and so on? They've got plans. We just don't know what they are yet or how it'll all play out.

On the second question... just an outright no. I think you're seriously overestimating the impact of the Apple TV. To be fair I have in the past repeatedly underestimated Apple. But the Apple TV? I don't see it becoming the next Wii. Frankly I doubt people even care that much about it let alone think of it as a gaming device.

I think Nintendo has lots of plans. It's just behind the scenes stuff that wouldn't actively excite people like, say, a new game would, which is why I imagine there hasn't been a Direct.
