Topic: Why on earth is Nintendo being so quiet?

While I understand that Iwata's death (may he RIP), and the need to hunt for a new CEO understandably shook things up a bit at Nintendo, I find it appalling that virtually NOTHING comprehensive has been done to reassure consumers that the company is ok and give them confidence going forward. There should have been a direct, some other kind of presentation, or SOMETHING to reassure consumers and let them know of great things later down the road. This all but dead silence is extremely worrisome and frustrating.

They are getting their ducks in a row and there has probably been no new information to deliver important enough that they couldn't wait. A new Direct soon is likely but we will see. This is actually pretty normal for Nintendo before they started doing Directs.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

It's not exactly dead silence when the only thing the company hasn't done in the past few months is made another Nintendo Direct (and last year had a similar gap).

If a Direct doesn't turn up beforehand, the second quarter earnings release scheduled for the 28th would be the next thing to look out for.

I hope a Direct makes it out before Fatal Frame releases

I currently don't need Nintendo to reassure me of anything.

I think E3 showed they don't really have much to show regarding Wii U and 3DS. Their main teams are now working on NX stuff and they won't be showing that until it's ready for it's big unveiling. They're going to spread what they do have out as long as they can, so there's not going to be any big announcements any time soon.

They don't need big announcements. They need to inform the consumers about the products they will be offering this holiday. There are still tons of things they can talk about in a Direct and not announce single new product.

@Peach64: Where did you hear this? I'm sure there are still teams working on Wii U stuff.

Outside of Zelda U, Star Fox Zero, and a couple others there really isn't anything major going on, at least compared to 2014.

My theory is that the reason Nintendo is being silent now was because of the reaction of their E3 presentation, which wasn't bad but pretty lackluster compared to 2013 or 2014. I fell that one of the biggest reasons behind that was because Nintendo would release directs almost every other month since the E3 before and some of those manage to generate more hype than Nintendo's 2015 E3 presentations. That, along with the fact we should be getting major news about the NX and Zelda U in E3 2016 it would be very risky to talk about anything right now... if there really was anything they can talk about before E3 2016, which (Hopefully) they know what went wrong. Again, just a theory, but I think it's fairly logical.

There's still Star Fox Zero, Genei Ibun Roku #FE, Mario & Sonic at the 2016 Olympic Games, Project Guard and Pikmin 4 (presumably) for Wii U next year. That's enough to cover the first half of the year I think.

Don't forget Zelda lol

I was thinking for the first half of next year, but yeah with Zelda in November and one more game for the August/September frame you'll have Wii U's 2016 basically covered.

Edit: Also forgot Pokkén Tournament. That's at least six games for Wii U next year.

Project Giant Robot? I think that's still a thing, too. Right.?

All I know is that Guard is still happening with Platinum Games co-developing. I'd wait for confirmation that Giant Robot still exists first.

LOL at both comments.

I think Nintendo knows how pathetic their E3 games line-up was and that they are evaluating the situation. On the other hand, Nintendo is extremely stubborn (like their die-hard fans), so they might think they gave the best E3 presentation this year. Nintendo doesn't make any sense, after all. It's also true that they've been always quiet until recently, so I wouldn't worry because they're being quiet now.

I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

Pretty sure the reason Nintendo has been quiet is that there isn't that much to cover as far as 2015 stuff goes outside of Smash DLC that includes a fighter, the new membership service, and the first DeNA mobile game. Besides that there really isn't much to cover unless they show off indies. The remaining holiday games aren't exactly games that warrant showing off in a Direct, with the exception of Xenoblade X and Yokai Watch. They'd mostly have to talk about Q1/Q2 2016 stuff like Hyrule Warriors Legends, Mario & Luigi Paper Jam, and Star Fox Zero.

I should point out that last year after E3 we didn't get a general Direct until November. We had 3 game specific Directs to fill in the gap. This year they obviously didn't have the games that warranted their own Direct other than maybe SMM.

Anyways, Roger from Rogersbase says that he has learned of news that will be revealed within the next couple weeks and claims that it's about an 8 or a 9 on the hype scale.

https://twitter.com/RogersBase/status/651235272995270657

Meanwhile, Stealth claims that he has caught wind of the next Smash Bros character reveal, claiming that it's a Nintendo character who may not have necessarily "won" the ballot, was going to be added eventually, isn't a clone, isn't Wolf, is a character who isn't terribly shocking but makes a whole lot of sense for a lot of reasons, and is a character he is particularly looking forward to.

For those doubting this, both Roger and Stealth are credible. They have insider info, and both have been at private events in the past, including one for Splatoon earlier in the year. Not sure if Roger and Stealth are talking about the same bit of news though.

So there's some news of sorts for you guys to chew on.
