Xbox 360. I didn’t even know consoles could break like that until I got the 360 (my xbox one died as well. Promised myself the series x is my last xbox). I am on my 8th 360.

Honestly never had a console I thought was bad, but I've almost entirely had Nintendo and skipped some of the less good ones. I inherited a PS2 and that was my least favorite console simply because it was fairly out-of-date when I got it and what I inherited didn't come with particularly good games.

Original Xbox mine didn’t last a year before i had hard drive issues. Didn’t even play it much either . And then the 360 came out with the red ring controversy. Meanwhile i was still playing my n64/snes from the mid 90s . Xbox had the lowest quality with electronics

@MarioLover92 Yeah, it got a lot worse in July. There's now:

  • Full screen ads for stuff like big releases, events and sales appear when you switch on the console
  • The equivalent of folders got mostly replaced by a bunch of Microsoft created categories you'd see on the Xbox store like what's on Game Pass and popular FTP games
  • The button to access your own games (My Games & Apps) got replaced by another store button, My Games & Apps is now a small button elsewhere

@Grumblevolcano I now appreciate the simple Switch UI much more after hearing you describe all that...

@Grumblevolcano I haven't come across the full screen ads when switching on the console, but the rest is pretty bad, and way worse than it used to be. It's fine as long as you don't scroll down though!

Interesting that you think Game Pass Core is worse than Live Gold though - I thought the general consensus was that Live was awful and the games offered were terrible, especially once they ran out of 360 games to give away. Apart from Rocket League, I generally don't play online on Xbox anyway so don't sub anymore (used to have GP Ultimate a couple of years ago), but the list of games on Core looks decent enough.

The Wii.
Yes, it was fun. Yes, it was a massive hit for Nintendo and wildly popular. I liked the gimmick games, for what they were. Wii Sports and all that, great fun.
That being said......any other game, I hated having that gimmick forced on every game. Waggle for Zelda, twist to open things in Metroid, collect things by pointing in Mario. Sometimes it was a hassle, sometimes it was obvious they just did whatever to meet some quota of motion control requirement, rarely was it ever fun for me outside of the gimmick games. Just wanted to come home from work, sit and play a game. Not wave my arms about, pointing, swinging and twisting or whatever to try and control it.
I skipped a lot of the Wii because of it.

@Grumblevolcano Jeez... Microsoft really didn't want the Xbox's UI to be user-friendly, huh? At least the home screens for Nintendo's systems aren't like that at all. They've pretty much all stayed the same.

Also, just a side note, I got a notification saying that NeonPizza mentioned me, but their post isn't there. I never got to read what they said since I think they deleted their account.

I would probably say the Xbox One. It is by far the console that I had the least amount of fun with. It truly felt like it was built to be an all in one machine, hence the name.

Have you tried any of the Etrian Odyssey games? Untold 2 (although I didn't finish it) got a good 30+ hours out of me.

I considered buying an Etrian Odyssey game several times with the hype it had at the time, but other games usually took my attention away (when I was even playing games at that time) and I'm not sure if it would be my sort of thing.

Nintendo 64. Terrible library. Goofy controller with brittle sticks that looked like it was designed to be played by three-armed aliens. Nintendo handed the home console market to Sony on bended knee with this abomination.

I generally disagree but I will say that PS1 had a big advantage of not only much better 3rd party support but also having more games where the awkwardness of that gen was less of an issue (especially JRPGs, where moment to moment gameplay doesn't matter remotely as much, and 2D games, which often aged much better).

@kkslider5552000 Astronomically better third-party support. Mind-bogglingly better.

So many genres were missing on N64, but full to overflowing on PS1. And I can't think of a single genre that N64 did better (I know people would usually say 3D platformers, but I detest Banjo-Kazooie and Mario 64 and absolutely adored the Spyro games, so...)

Another reason PS1 games often tended to age better is because of how darn colorful so many of the releases on N64 were. A game like Metal Gear Solid with dank environments and a heavy reliance on FMVs and cutscenes can skate by its limitations more effectively than Mario 64, for example.

The virtual boy. My dad brought one home one day. It was truly uncomfortable to play. And the novelty wore off in under a minute.

@Cotillion I agree. Partly why I love the Switch is become it has console quality games with no dumb gimmick shoehorned in that makes it hard for 3rd party devs to release their games on all platforms. Sure the joycons are kind of a gimmick but they still function like actual controllers. And there's only around 10 or so games that don't work in handheld mode. It feels like the most PlayStation-y console since the GameCube. You buy it because the games are good. Not because the console has a gimmick.

I think you're the first person in history to say "y'know its the bright colorful games that didn't age well", congrats.

Hello there fellow gamers i honestly think that I never owned a worse console. But if I had to pick one it would probably be the original NES. As time went on you would have to blow on the games or the system to get it to work.

It's a myth that blowing on the cartridges or connector ever did anything. If anything, the moisture in your breath could cause corrosion and make worse contacts in future.

All you ever had to do was re-seat them if there was a bad contact. The same goes for Switch cartridges, of course.

I got a TurboGrafx-16 one Christmas. I was VERY excited. Problem is our small town video store did not rent TurboGrafx-16 games. So I really have no idea if it was a good console or not, as I only ever played 4 games for it:

  • Bonk's Adventure was fun
  • TaleSpin was not
  • Super Volleyball was a half-decent arcade-style game (it's actually on Arcade Archives)
  • J.J. & Jeff was crap, and apparently based on a Japanese talk show or something. I think it came with the system?

Also Sega Game Gear. I was so excited to have a Genesis in my hands!......until getting it in my hands and realizing that it is not that at all.

@Cotillion Ditto about the Wii. It just wasn’t my flavor is all I can say. The Wii U felt like a return to what I liked.
