Megaman X is fantastic. Possibly one of the 10 greatest games of all time. Incredible soundtrack and fast pace action thanks to dashing is so cool. It's more fast paced and encourages more exploration than Megaman classic. I'd say go for it.

yeah Megaman X, mainly the first 2 or 3, are fantastic games. They're SNES sequels to NES games so of course it's awesome.

I have heard the first three NES Mega Man Games are the best out of the six. So I've heard..... how are the other 3 and are 1,2 and 3 really that good?

4 and 6 are alright. 5's kinda boring, but only because it's too easy. And the first game really isn't that good, IMO. It lacks polish that even 4-6 have. 2 and 3 are definitely that good, though.

I kinda really like 5. Though I haven't played it in years. 2 and 3 are still definitively the best though.

X4 was actually a pretty solid sequal, X5 was boring and I hated the serious SCFI tone/presentation it had going on. X6 felt clumsy, rushed, irritating and not put together as well as the previous 5.

I haven't played X3 yet, and my memories are foggy with X2. I remember enjoying it, but it didn't deliver the same impact as the original.
If anything, the bosses in X2 are more funky and daring. Gotta love Wire Sponge!

I've never beaten Megaman 8 'cause of that Jet-boarding section in Wily Castle 1 IIRC.

You sure you're not thinking of the Boarding section in Frost Man's stage? Or whatever his name is, maybe Blizzard Man or something...

Oh great. There's more of that in MM8 than Frost Man's stage. It's official, I'm never playing that game again.

Can I add that Megaman 7 and 8 are the most pointless Megaman platformers ever? And considering how you can safely stop playing every Megaman series after the 2nd or 3rd game, that's saying a lot.

That's including the Street Fighter crossover fangame, since that at least has the point to cheer up fans kinda. Though 7 at the very least is a better game...

Apperantly the music in the Street Fighter fanmade Mega game is pretty medciore and completely fails in terms of quality when stacked up the actual series, but that's expected when you're comparing some random dude up against capcom proffesionals who actually specialize in the field and have been doing it for years.

@KKSlider

MM7 has Shade man so therefor it's automatically worth playing. Dr.Wily's inspiration was clearly none other than Count Chocola. :p

I enjoyed MM7 well enough. That said, I get your point, the series had kinda moved on by then...

I liked 7 as well, 8 has it's moments but yes the Frost Man stage and Aqua Man stage are hateful.

So who else downloaded Mega Man 2 on the eShop? I know we're all longing for a new game, but I don't mind playing the classic a few more times.

Got MM2 a few hours ago and am currently going for a no metal blade run on difficult mode. As useful as it was, that weapon was way too overpowered for its own good that it took away half the challenge making difficult mode feel like normal. So Far I beat metal, crash, bubble and flash man using the buster and hopefully I can manage to beat Quick man without resorting to the time stopper or savestates.

.................
The only mega man game I played was battle network, didn't play all of it just some battles.

Mega Man is better than Gunman Clive, but the gameplay is pretty similar. The game is just so much fun that you can get quite a bit of replay out of it especially if you like to challenge yourself to buster-only runs or no-damage runs and stuff like that.
