So, I'm trying to figure out what series to marathon, and decided to ask my favorite forum for advice. Then I remembered they'd all make fun of me for various reasons, and decided to ask my second favorite forum, Nintendo Life, instead.
The choices are listed below with the pros and cons listed beneath each choice:
Super Mario (Main series only) [Missing: SMB2, Lost Levels, NSMBW, SMG2] Pro: All games are short, made good progress in several of them Con: Most are hard, especially the 2D games, and I tend to rage quit
Sonic (Console Platformers only) [Missing: Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic & tBK, Sonic Unleashed 360 ver., Sonic Colors] Pro: Most games are fairly easy Con: Longest series I own, includes Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06
Final Fantasy (Main series RPGs only) [Missing: After Years, FF6, FF8, FF11] Pro: Made some good progress in each, all are short for their genre Con: Still very long games, and there are a lot of them
Shin Megami Tensei [Own: Persona[1, 3, 4], Nocturne, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey] Pro: Shortest series in the bunch, favorite series Con: All are long games
Dragon Quest (Main series only) [Missing DQ6, DQ9] Pro: Most games are short until 7 and 8 Con: 7 and 8 are the longest games I own, least favorite of the bunch

I'd vote Shin Megami Tensei simply since I really like P4.
Sonic as my second choice.
I'm pleasantly surprised anyone voted for them here. Maybe there's a chance Super Mario Bros. won't win (not that I'd complain too much if it did. These are all good games here).
Sonic the Hedgehog. It won't take forever to complete like the RPG series you've picked, and it's probably one that you haven't visited in a while. Another benefit is you can play the new Sonic Colors after finishing all of the old ones, whereas you've probably finished the latest Mario game, Galaxy 2, recently. Assuming you played it when it came out, that is.
I understand wholeheartedly if you want to skip Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06.

Another benefit is you can play the new Sonic Colors after finishing all of the old ones, whereas you've probably finished the latest Mario game, Galaxy 2, recently. Of course, I won't skip it, but I won't like it either.
Sonic would be nice. The games are lot shorter even compared to Mario (shorter than SMT? Im not sure, but how can it be longer than a series of RPG's?), but still fun to play. Of course, If you go there you're gonna have to endure Sonic 06, but that can be considered as challenge. I was actually thinking of doing a Sonic Megadrive marathon myself, now that I have all the five main games for that system.
And speaking of Shadow the Hedgehog, more people need to play that game. Honest to god, I found that game surprisingly good, or at least decent. And Its a freakin Sonic game where you can turn off your assisting partner!

This. It'll be fun to play Sonic Colors at the end. Kudos to you to being so dedicated that you play Sonic '06 (Shadow the Hedgehog isn't great, but it isn't THAT bad). I recommend you play the 8 bit versions too, since they are pretty fun as well. Three of them are on the Master System VC, and I think the game gear only triple trouble is on one of the gcn compilations. I assume you have at least one of those, since that's really the only way to play Sonic CD right now unless you still have the original system.

Shadow is decent, but only when playing on Nuetral. the Good and Evil missions suck hard, IMO. And Sonic is the longest in individual games that I own. I don't have the Master System games, only their Game Gear counterparts, but its still a lot of games, 15 I think. I'm saving the portable games for a Part 2 marathon the next time I have a vacation (So around Xmas I guess. I'll have Sonic Colors for DS by then).
Final Fantasy marathon sounds like hell on earth. Mario sounds like the marathon that would be the most fun. But I vote for Sonic. Just because you need to be a real G to force yourself through the latter half of those games. That right there is a challenge.
