Topic: Had to put my dog down tonight :(

My dog, a Chiwowa Jack Russell mix has had heart problems for years. She was also aggressive against is brishing her teeth ever since she was a puppy so when she stopped eating biscuits her teeth deteriorated. Ultimately it was her heart that was failing when tonight she fell down and never got back up. My brother and I made the decision to take her in. Probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do. But I feel a sense of comfort knowing she isn't suffering. Her heart was so weak that she died about 1/4th of the way through the syringe. She was 15 and a half. We burried her in our back yard.

Just felt like venting.

Sorry for your loss Trajan. We have 3 dogs one being a Jack Russell and they are amazing dogs. Take solace in the fact that at least she's not suffering anymore. Hope it gets easier over time. Take care!

I even cannot imagine the moment that you had to live. I have 2 dogs and they are really a part of our family.
I hope you'll get better over time dude. She's happy where she is now, I'm convinced she is, yeah...
You did the right thing to do Trajan...

Sucks having to put down a family pet.
Had to put down my border collie a while back and then my last cat soon after. Its a terrible feeling but at least theyre not suffering anymore.
Sorry for your loss.

@Trajan Sorry for the loss, while glad she doesn't struggle anymore.
I've also got the same mix (bit more terrier appearance), and I just finished the whole heart worm treatment regimen a few months ago. When he was young enough to test, it apparently gave a false negative. When I took him in for a checkup, he had tons. It was about 8 months of treatment, since these dogs are small.
I say all that just to emphasize that that you and yours suffered a loss, and I'm sorry everyone had to go through it.

Sorry for your loss man. Not related, but I wish I had a dog. My living situation doesn't really allow it. I played Nintendogs for some time but my sister deleted the save file and gone was my favorite virtual pet. His name was Billy.

After that I took an aquarium, but fish are pretty meh... True story...

Here's my sob story, just in case.
Teetee, last surviving daughter of Ceecee, was a mixed breed, kind of like a Herdier if it helps you figure out which breed she was.
Untitled
She was amazing - shy and introverted towards others, but with a deep love towards all of us, especially my mom.
Then, one day, she got sick. As we discovered far too late, she got a stroke and one half of her brain was gone. She got seizures, complete with drool, and started running in circles - as in, small circles - for no reason at times. Our vet gave us a medicine to give her via syringe, but it was too late for that, too. What we had to do next... you can figure it out.
That day we went to our vet's office to get things done, Teetee was weeping in my arms, completely confused and in pain. And then... she stopped moving, all of a sudden.
My mom told me what I wasn't ready to hear.
"She just died!"
Or so we thought - turns out she kind of fainted, and woke up a few minutes later. That doesn't diminish the fact that as far as I knew then, my little dog just died my arms.
Once we came back home, we buried right next her late mother. When lowering her into the hole, wrapped in a tiny shroud, my mom, weeping, muttered "Bye, little one" before burying Teetee's shrouded lifeless body.

...

... so yeah, I can totally relate. You have my condolences.

I don't quite have lots o' loot, because I'm from the Boot.

@Link-Hero It's also best to check with your city and county. In some areas it can be illegal and later on down the road it can come back to bite you. You can get some hefty fines too that aren't no joke. It happened to my friends parents. When he was a kid he buried his cat that he lost. Well when his mom moved out of the house when his parents got divorced the new owners were putting in a pool and dug up the remains. They contacted the authorities cause they found bones and they tracked it down to his mom. After figureing out yeah it was cat bones she got a large fine for illegally disposal of a body. So just be careful.

I suggest creamating your decesed pet. You local vet probably knows how to go about it and whats good with that is if you move you can take the urn with you. I actually have a shrine for two cats I lost a few years ago and had creamated.

Sorry for your lost though. Just remember you gave her a great life!!! @Trajan

@AlexSora89 thank you for sharing. It is so sad to see things like that. Katie actually had a few seizures years ago and then when she got on her heart meds. She was on them for probably 5 years. Dr said eventually they would stop working.

@Link-Hero @Tasuki. Yeah its legal here. The vet ER wrapped her in plastic from what they said to contain all the fluids, then wrapped that in a cloth. We measured depth and used rocks in addition to replacing the soil.

And all that at midnight in the rain.
