3) 'U' rather than 'you'. A certain forum member who shall not be named uses this regularly, while at the same time attempting to act like he's somehow superior to everyone else. I personally think he's around 14 years old and failing school.
I wouldn't use 'u' rather than 'you' in a post on the forums, because I'd think it makes me look like an idiot. If I'm reading someone else's post, and they use 'u', I tend to assume they are an idiot.
Mind you, I tend to assume everyone is an idiot, until proven otherwise.
I feel an overwhelming urge to lock this thread and correct all the grammatical errors within it in a display of both irony and respect for the language.
Of course we need better grammer in NL, but I don't care when somebody makes a grammer mistake. Just as long as someone does not make this many grammer mistakes in a sentence.. For example:LOLwut thisw tread is awsome. Now THAT'S a different story.
@V: that makes twice this thread was very nearly locked. fortunately for everyone, though, i decided not to be lazy this evening.
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!

See, this thread is a negative place. It's even got people like me, shrinking violets, who only rarely offer up an opinion, and never forcefully, banding around terms such as idiot!

Indeed I save the grammatical correctness for my college papers. If you want to judge me based on how I post in a meaningless forum, then you have no clue who I really am.
I actually noticed my grammar is usually better than many people who have English as their native language.
Everytime somewhere in the world a cute puppy dies if people us "an" or "a" wrong. suc as "a apple" or "an computer". Terrible...
The same goes for little kittens when "it's" and "its" are misused. "Its nice" or "The dog captured it's ball". Horrid...
I don't mind abbreviations like WTF or LOL. But the lazy use of the letter "u" instead of the actual word "you" makes me want to torture innocent children playing in the street outside.
Now that one is tricky indeed, when you get to certain words like "historical." Some would say that it is still proper to say "an historical monument" due to the "h" sound being nearly silent and absorbed into the vowel; others, however, would call the use of "an" in that context an anachronism that would be improper in contemporary writing. I believe I side with the latter. It's also a British / American difference, but both are moving away from using "an" in those contexts, unless I'm mistaken.
Actually, "an historical monument" is grammatically incorrect. The "h" is not silent. However, "An hour went by before we left for lunch", WOULD BE gramatically correct since the "h" sound is vowel-ish.
This is the only forum that I have ever used where people have a problem with the misues of ellipses. I use them gramatically correct to indicate that I have paraphrased a quote. I also use them, in an incorrect manner, to indicate a trailing off of a thought. For example: "Did you see that game last night? Oh my goodness..."
In real life, I cringe when when someone says "idear" instead of "idea". There's more, but it's too early to think of them so maybe I'll post later... see what I did there
