@WAM I don't know what you mean as "played all 'classic 2D good Sonic games'". But if you really really want to find the appeal of the (good) Sonic games. Try Sonic 2 if you are more of a "fun fast-paced plataformer" or Sonic 3 & Knuckles for a "Secret Exploration, detailed level design and stuff to do". If you still don't get, it. Well it's not your thing. Different People, different tastes.
@Raylax Mario also have his Hotel Mario, and Mario is Missing moments now and then. Guess the good games helps people forget the "small sales".
Decent sonic games nowadays are only on portable consoles, and these aren't as good as the MD/Gen games. Colo(u)rs sound really promising, even more than Sonic (Advance/Rush) 4, let's wait, but prepared for the worse.
well its a platformer like Mario and even though hes not as good as b4 I still thing the only terrible Sonic is 06 Shadows ok, Heroes ok, Rush, awesome, unleashed great, Stories ok, adventure awesome, and colors looks cool as well, at least the DS version

Oh, well, I don't really have a reason to why I like them. But the best answer must be that I played all the original games on a Genesis in my grandma's basement at a young age, so I've always been a huge fan.

Definitely agreed. I think the problem is that there are too many people who can't let go of the old Sonic vs. Mario arguements that people used to make in grade school.

Back on topic, Sonic games (well the Genesis ones, at least) are enjoyable because of their speed, catchy music, and appealing character. Nowadays, the new ones (excluding Colors and Sonic 4) are shunned upon because of the extreme number of characters, bad voice acting, too many gimmicks, and not enough speed. Everybody has an opinion, don't get me wrong, but there are far more great Sonic titles than just Sonic Advance and Sonic Chronicles.
#14 - I know that but we're talking long standing Sonic Team incompetence is all here. #15 - I know the Gamegear games mostly were awful, just was sticking to the console titles for the sake of it. #19 - I tried hard to like Sonic Rings on wii, but the problem was the 'flick' motion was not 100% accurate for the game, and that's a fatal problem with flick=jump button. I thought the animation, stage designs, etc were pretty cool, but that broke it for me.
You know what, when I thought about it more there was one good Sonic handheld title that wasn't mucked up, Sonic the Hedgehog for the Neo Geo Pocket Color as it was simply fantastic lacking all the flaws and cut corners of the rest.
