lets face it. most games now aren't as much fun as when i remember. I used to be so excited when i got a gamecube game, and when i get a wii game, i barley play it. in fact, i usually have more fun playing my old n64 and gamecube.
now that my 3 sentence rant is finished (whew...) does anyone agree with me

Lemme take a guess, 5 years ago, you loved Mario Party. Now you get Megaman 10 and play it once? On-topic: I kinda agree.
I kind of agree. Now that I actually follow game review scores and gaming news, I go from wanting any game I feel like to letting my doubt prohibit me from getting or trying said game. It (along with my limited cash flow) has kept me from getting stuff like Madworld, Muramasa, etc.

I found this whole console generation underwhelming in the games department. I couldn't care less about Blu-Ray or high-def graphics and the Wii, while a revolution, started to feel state after my first two and a half years. I could pick 3-5 games per system that I'd REALLY want to keep and other than that I don't really care. It's odd how I loved the Game Cube so much (I could pick about 30 games I'd truly want), yet this generation offers so much more and I feel shortchanged. I don't think games are deteriorating in quality though, it's us. Er, not deteriorating (k, technically we are I guess...), but our tastes n' crud are just changing as we grow. It's no longer 2003.
The handheld department on the other hand, couldn't be better! My only complaint is there are so many good games and your pocket can't carry half of them.
I kind of agree in the sense that when I was younger I'd be very very excited to get a new game and I am not nearly as excited when I get a new one now. The games are still great though and I get lots of play time out of them

I'm more of a casual "current gen" gamer. I get more bang for my buck out of Xbox Live Arcade titles and VC/WiiWare games vs a "full" $50-$60 game. Getting Mario Galaxy 2 and then I may not purchase another "full" console game until NBA Jam Wii.
When you consider new games (at least on Nintendo systems) have been $50 since at least the N64 era, due to inflation, games are actually a better value than they were before (and it does put the $60-$70 price for HD games more in perspective).
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery

It's been $50 since the NES I think. Other than the N64 having a few games at $60 or so, Nintendo's price point has almost always been $50.
Using a random inflation calculator I found online: http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ if you bought Super Mario 3 today at 1990's $50, it would actually be $81.04 by 2009's value of $50 in 1990.
Nintendo has done rather well in keeping prices steady, it's just game quality has drastically fluctuated...
Let's not face it. If games aren't as fun this generation, then you're not playing the right games.
Face that.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Games don't get worse. You get older, and your expectations rise. Like Token said, the monetary value is actually getting better, despite the rise to $60 prices on other consoles -- not to mention games generally offer more content per disc with each generation.
And for those like me who prefer fast, short games to the 40+ hour borefests that are quickly taking over, the indie scene on PC has tons of quality games for free, and all consoles have cheap downloadable services with similar titles.
I can't say I don't miss the NES days in terms of game design -- but then I was getting those games as holiday and birthday gifts, not with my own money. So I bet if I had been an adult then I would still say that times are getting better for games and perceived value.
The title of this thread makes no sense. Your not talking about how much games cost what you mean is that games aren't as much fun these days. but ,ya know whatever I would mainly put that down to getting older (most of us become more cynical as we age) and the fact that games have changed drastically in the last ten years ,moving away from the quick fix ,reflex based simple games of yore to more interactive hollywood type experiences.Personally I think the best of todays games are better than anything we've ever had in the past. My only problem is that I wish I was 15 again so I had more time to play all these games.Plus the choice and price nowadays is something I could have only have dreamed of as a kid , bloody kids, don't know how lucky they are...grumble...grumble..
