I started to be much more selective a while ago. Your method aint bad but for me thats already too much work which those shows aint worth . The kind of shows that annoy me are actually pretty easy to spot and avoid. Tags are often enough. I just wish there would be more stuff for me.
@Tsurii Kotaku lists jojo as spring anime. But yes thats actually my kind of anime. I did praise mob psycho 100 a page back. Like i said i only enjoyed saiki and mob. The rest is still a terrible season for me.

Oh, hey, that's cool. I've been meaning to get around to rewatching Outlaw Star. I'll be watching it on Funi's site, though. I don't really like watching cable TV...
@Phazon You're grouping anime into one stereotype which isn't fair to anime. Those 'elitist' groups are there that's true (It was tough for me to fit in too when I started watching anime last year) but by no means does that apply to all anime. Anime like AOT and SAO are all stereotyped anime with those exact 'elitist' groups. But many anime (or rather most) do not have said groups. Or maybe I got your whole comment wrong...
I don't see why those kinds of morons would have an impact on your personal enjoyment of the medium tbh. It's not like anyone forces you to talk to them just because you watch the stuff.
Because it ruins it for me and pretty much everyone else when you try to have a constructive discussion with others and have people badmouth series you watch and how bad the animation/filler/ect is.
They don't list the positive parts of the series, it's always gotta be the negative aspect of it.
Fanbases are good evidence for why people should never develop an opinion on anything. And if they do so, they should probably be quarantined immediately, lest their important thoughts come into contact with another human being with equally important thoughts and blow up the world.
Pre-fanbase, people are generally fine just liking something because they like it. And then they 'inaugurate', and find themselves having to justify in why they like it in painstaking detail for fear of being outcast.
And the you've got the problem of fanbases surrounding topics that are too broad to really sustain a single, unified 'base' to begin with (e.g anime), which leads to people tying to assert that their corner of interest is what really counts within that field, and everything else os periphery (or... "trash").
So yeah, probably best to stay away from people who like things excessively, especially in large groups. Too many passionate people in a confined space just seems to lead to infighting and a weird sense of 'policing' around the subject in question.
If you want to talk about something, it's probably best to find a less rabid group of people than the self-proclaimed 'fanbase'
Started watching Aldnoah.Zero on Netflix, and while I wasn't sure what to expect going in (other than it's a mecha of some sort), I'm really liking it.
I'm not too attached to any of the characters yet, and haven't been a huge fan of the Martian mechs so far, I like the looks of the Earth's, I really dig the world it's set in, and how the protagonists are outgunned and have to win through strategy.

Exactly. I mean, this is coming from someone who tried out 6 different anime forums only to find that 5 of them had extremely toxic communities. That's a problem with the internet in general, to a degree. Common decency is harder to maintain without face-to-face communication.
I get what he means about "overly negative communities" but that's not a problem with "anime fans" - those are just spiteful people who simply want to vent about nothing in particular. That's not a fanbase problem, that's a people problem. I did find one forum where people weren't jerks as often, mostly due to a more positive group of regulars and staff who made sure to oust trolls and make sure to add something more positive to a conversation, even if it's just jokes. There was one admin who was always grumpy, though, but I think it was just because he had ben there so long that he had turned it into a form of self-parody...luckily he mostly stuck to the general discussion sub-forum...

Yeah, that's a great one. I'll admit that I only ever got attatched to a few characters, but it gets better in that regard by the second season.
@Phazon If that's much of a problem why not check out reviews on MyAnimeList? Any and every fanbase is biased, that's a fact. But reviewers are generally always constructive in their criticism (except Jim Sterling). So checking out reviews in MyAnimeList helps as people bring out the positives and negatives of a show. Simple.

I suppose in posting that image I'm the one backseat modding, but it's just too perfect.
Anyway, let's talk amine and mangos! I watched Azumanga Daioh a while ago and thought it was really sweet. Not a lot happened, and the world didn't get saved, but it was fun to be along for the ride. Are there any similarly charming shows that aren't overly cloying or contrived in their cuteseyness? I thought of lot of Azumanga's charm was in the earnestness of its eccentricity, but I've seen a fair few shows where such 'endearingness' feels really forced, and I've grown a bit over-sensitive to it.
