ok. i apologize if this is somewhere else, but i have concerns. does anyone really believe that nintendo is going to continue putting out games for the DSi? i remember when the wii was announced and they said they were going to continue to make games for the cube...we all know how honest that one was. so there's a new spiro game coming out for the wii & 3DS...but not the DSi. they will never announce 'tough beans' because they still want to sell the units, like the XL, but they do not mean it.
i am sure there are some games that were already in progress, but i just do not believe that nintendo cares about a system when their new one comes out. they have shown that time and again.
Right now Nintendo is focusing on developing quality stuff for Project Café and the 3DS, so the DS and Wii are going to suffer as a result. Instead of wondering why there aren't as many (or possibly any) games coming out for the DS, why not use this lull to catch up on some games you might've missed or discover new ones you've completely passed over?
To answer the question at hand, at least for a little bit. There's still a new Kirby game to come, and I'm sure there's probably going to be at least 1 or 2 more good 1st party games to come that Nintendo will probably announce tomorrow.
@birdman: i have tons of games, all of which i have played. that does not make me not want newer ones. also, for those who just bought their XL during the push last holiday season: are they to merely enjoy what's there and not expect anything new? this is NOT a lull, but a death knell, as it always is whenever nintendo goes to the next versions of its hardware.
The "lull" that you are talking about always happens with the previous system when a new one comes out. Quite honestly its not up to Nintendo how long the DSi in this case will be around it depends on the game companies and if they will continue support for the DSi or just jump ship to the 3DS. Take the Playstation 2 for example the reason it hasnt gone way yet is because companies are still putting out games for it. Bottom line as devleopers keep putting stuff out for it the system will be around.

I think once the 3DS has a solid base, the DS support will drop. Games are still coming out for it now because there's like, 10 games for the 3DS. I'd give it about a year before it's taken off life support.
who knows but releasing Zelda: four swords for DSI certainly says something since i would imagine theres a solid base of customers who arent just going to drop it and get a 3DS
theres millions of regular DS owners as well so any developer should they chose too will continue to make games for those systems
I agree with @3DSneedsRPGs, but doesn't mean you can find them. DS has such a huge catalog and I am sure you will still see more games for it like Solatorobo and Kirby Mass Attack to new a couple that are coming out in the fall of this year.
Definitely not. Extended support for systems generally come from third-party developers, who take advantage of the large install base or low development costs of the previous system and keep making games. Nintendo will concentrate all their efforts on supporting their new systems, and so it remains to be seen what third-party developers do. At the moment, releasing a game on the DS is probably a better bet than the 3DS due to the larger install base, but I think there will be a shift towards the 3DS soon.
A lot of the games people are mentioning here would have been in development long before the 3DS was announced, so I don't think they really count as continuing support.
As people have said, the DS has one of the best game libraries in recent time - you may not get 'new' stuff (what is the difference between playing a new or an old game, if it's your first time?) but there's plenty of stuff to explore.
I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.
