Topic: The 3DS: the next Virtual Boy?

Do you think the 3DS will be successful and revolutionary, or do you think it'll go down in history as a flop like the Virtual Boy? I, personally, believe that a 3D perspective hasn't been perfected yet and the 3DS will become today's Virtual Boy. Let me know when they invent holograms.

VB was like almost 20 years ago. I am prety sure they have learned they lesson and know what they are doing.

From what I have read the 3DS sounds very different from virtual boy and won't have the same problems, plus 3D is big now and I am willing to bet that it will sell because of the 3D boom.

I'm only worried about the battery life. Rumored to have rumble, 3D, tilt, motion control, Gamecube graphics, microphone, touch screens, possibly a camera, and Wi-fi. Good luck trying to fit all that and get a battery life over 2 hours Nintendo. Wait and see but they might be shooting themselves in the foot by getting customer expectations too high and not delivering.

For now I have faith that Nintendo has come up with solutions to maximize the battery life. If they follow their recent philosophy, the tech has gotten cheap enough that they can do 3D and whatever else they've added without making a $300 device. Though they have been pushing up the price on their recent versions of the DS...

The main problem with the Virtual Boy wasn't the 3D. It was the fact that it was not portable and the user was forced to sit in an uncomfortable position and usually ended up getting a headache. From what I understand, the 3D can be turned off if Nintendo is using the tech they're rumored to be using.

The itouch already has all of those things except 3D (and I doubt that will take up too much more energy, comparatively) and has a decent battery life. I think we'll be fine. Ninty always has had comparatively longer battery life than it's competitors, and I don't think they'll abandon a part of the strategy that has kept them dominating the handheld games market since the GB.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

VB I feel like they just kind of threw together to hold people over. I think Nintendo has proven that they can take things fans dont necessarily see eye to eye with and get them to love it.

I think I'd like to at least try the damn thing before making a judgment. But that's just me.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

I thought the lack of color was a major contributor.
I've heard people say Red Alarm was one of the better games on the system.
However, I had trouble figuring out what was going on in the game when everything was red wireframes.
(I know Wario Land is also praised (seems it was the only VB game to make NP's top 200 list). But it was also primarily a 2D game, kinda defeating the point of being on the VB.)

Oh heavens no. The iPod touch and iPhone both don't have graphics anywhere near Gamecube power, motion sensing, or rumble. Those three features will eat up battery life. If the iPod Touch had them, it's battery life would be terrible.

This isn't the 90s anymore. Same thing they said with the Nintendo DS. "HOW COULD 2 SCREENS WORK! STUPID!". Failure. It was a massive success. The 3DS will be an amazing system.

The battery life should be good, Nintendo themselves said that it would be even longer than the DS Lite's

Eh, we'll see. Let's not get our hopes up too high, fellows.

Well since it already supports backwards, it already sells to whoever doesn't have the others. Plus i heard it has a joystick, the 3d-ness, crazy good graphics, and allot of other stuff I'm sure... I don't know that much.
Edit: after coming back it has motion, rumble, wi-fi or some type of internet for sure, probably a good battery that solar powered(jk about solar power), proably uses gamecube discs and will be able to play GameCube discs with it as well, and all the stuff the DSi has except more memory, and higher res of cameras.

like the wii, i dont think there will be strong 3rd party support to the system. i believe there is a 75% chance of it failing

Is it just me, or are there now going to be 5 variations of the same game console? The DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSIXL, and now 3DS? If they actually do make their release date of this fall, then that would mean 2 consoles in 1 year, and 3 in 2 years. And what would be the point? I like my games now, and just got a DSi. So now I have to buy a whole new console that has 3-D, spend another $300, cant transfer my old stuff, and now have to wait for the next Mario or Zelda? It's a rip off! They're over saturating the market with the 3DS! Everyone already has a DS console variant, so why would I want to shell out more money to play the same games? All just to play them in 3D? And some of the game's 3D can be turned of? This is the biggest scam I've ever seen.
