According to nnooo, Nintendo doesn't allow SD card usage or wifi for 3rd parties through dsiware. A lot of ppl on gonintendo are hating this, but something doesn't add up. Doesn't Dragon Quest Wars have online wifi? What are your thoughts?

What!? That is riduculous! Nintendo is just trying to control 3rd pary developers, just like in the NES days!

I don't think they don't allow third parties to use wi-fi. I think they jst don't allow them to have web access outside their own sites.

That was completely different. The Devs are free to work on other platforms, granted that their publishers (If they're not doing it themselves) will let them and they have the money to buy the dev kits necessary. No one's being forced to stick with Nintendo

True, but I thought Nintendo gave up some of their controlling ways. The fact they have released a major game on the DSiWare service is kinda odd, considering they were not going to release a major game on the WiiWare service.
I'll explain more in my coming soon topic.

From all the stuff I've read in interviews and such, it sounds like Nintendo will only give devs the "goods" if they have a good working relationship with them. However, if the dev is too cocky to request support, they get a bare minimum dev kit and no true support from the big N. At least that's the way I see it.

Well as far as I was aware Phantasy Star Zero : mini has 4 player wifi and that is by SEGA and it isnt as if Phantasy Star Online is unique to Nintendo so the game is well and truely a 3rd party game. Which has wifi support and already released in Japan.
I think its purely down to the development team, for instance Gameloft ported us Asphalt 4 which was originaly on the iPhone but neither supported wifi multiplayer because even the iPhone version is local multiplayer just like all Gamelofts DSiware games. Im sure if a developer really wanted to invest time and money into adding and playtesting a good wifi multiplayer mode then they will. This would explain why its available with PSO:Zero mini because its included in the full title so they obviously knew it worked well enough.

This makes so much sense as one of the biggest third party devs (gameloft) on DSiware so far really managed to prove themselves on wiiware by making some really good titles on there. And they are producing some really good stuff, I wouldnt be suprised to see wifi included in some DSiware sequels (fingers crossed for Asphalt DSiware Online)

If you light a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day. If you set a man on fire, he'll be warm for a lifetime.
