I know there aren't many people who are excited for this, but I plan on getting it eventually since I only got a chance to play the PC version for a few minutes. It's supposed to be a remake of the first Myst DS except with much better interface, graphics, and audio and it's going to be released on June 29th for NA. Here's the link to the trailer.
Does anybody else want this or am I the only person?
I had no idea they were putting out a new DS version. I had wanted to get the original DS release, but read nothing but universally bad reviews regarding the graphics, controls and basically everything for that version.
If this one has fixed all those problems, i'll likely pick it up.
So it's like the first DS release of the game, just not terrible? Intriguing. Same developer too, I guess this is their way of apologizing for that mess.
I'll stick to my PC version, I guess, but if you've never played Myst before, now's as good a time as any. It's one of the most atmospheric games ever made, and an absolute must play.
Avoid it at all costs. The reviews were almost unanimously atrocious, and they all said that the graphics look worse when scaled down to one screen, the audio is a mess, and the result is often trying to click on something that is only a single pixel in size.
It's a shame, but it looks like a terrible port. What they should have done would be to look at what the homebrew scene created with ScummVM for the DS, which allows classic point-and-click games (LucasArts, etc) to be played on the DS, and has a wonderful interface whereby one screen is zoomed out and one fully zoomed in but following your stylus as you move around the overview image. Instead, they cut every image down to the size of a single DS screen, threw something semi-useless on the other screen, and left the audio in shambles.
EDIT - I see that the idea is that this might be a new game, but it doesn't look like it. Everything in that trailer matches the screenshots from the previous game. If the remastered the audio, that might move it from horrible to just terrible, but I don't see any other possible changes, as the images are still tiny and not visibly changed at any point in the video.
The original game also had the exact same "tools" at the bottom, including the magnifying glass, according to IGN's site where they gave it a terrible review.
I don't see how this is different. Some remastering? That might help a bit, but they have a whole lot of explaining to do in order to convince anyone to try it again when it looks to be the same exact port.

I had only played a bit of it when it first came out when a friend in the dorm was puzzling through it, and it was years before i had my own computer where i could have played it (through college with just a portable word processor ... get off my lawn!).
I'd love if this version is actually decent, as i dig the DS for these types of games these days (i would love remakes of the Kings Quest series for DS even if i have them all of my PC as well as my Wii via DosBoxWii).
EDIT: Will definitely have to wait for some reviews to show up on it to see if it truly is different.

I don't think they would just release the same exact game over again. They'll at least fix it up a bit, hopefully.
Perhaps I was too harsh, and they'll make the graphics and sound acceptable, but reviewers did also complain about the interface, which looks exactly the same in the preview video.
One reviewer: "The stylus is a poor substitute for the mouse, since there is no cursor to move around. On the PC half of playing Myst was just moving the cursor around the screen until it turned into that little hand and you knew you could click something. There is no cursor for the DS version and there is no indication that anything is interactive until you tap on it. So unless you already know what to do for the entire game, you're pretty much screwed, doomed to wander around tapping all over the touch screen, wishing and hoping that something will happen before you go mad. Tapping around aimlessly on the screen is in no way a fun gameplay mechanic. "

Myst DS sucked. I enjoyed "Real Myst" (the 3D version), and V, but this one is just really annoying to play. Maybe still-screen games just aren't my thing.

You might want to read the full review, as the reviewer is implying Myst was never fun in the first place and he hates the genre.
Yeah, i read that review when it first came out -- not good. It was actually one of those kind of negative reviews that encouraged me more to check out the game, since the reviewer obviously was bringing too much bias to the table.
Someone who reviews the "point and click" genre and talks about aimlessly moving the cursor around on the screen until they see that they can click on something misses the whole concept of how to play those games or what makes them fun. It's the equivalent of someone who just spams the fireballs when they play as Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat, rather than actually "play" the game.
