Did anyone get it? If so ... what do you think of it?

I have it preordered from Play-Asia along with Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. That means I'm gonna have to wait a couple of weeks before I get it. It looks good though.

I just snagged myself a copy. Will start playing it tonight.

Please post your opinions, I'm extremely borderline on this game. It has so many great attributes, but the emphasis on grinding and some poor controls/design have me cautious.

Boom.

Thomas_Joseph

Will do. Everything I've read so far really praises this game ... which is why I actually splurged and bought it at full price (only the third time I've done that with a game).

So far combat seems relatively easy to conduct (though I imagine the strategy will get kicked up a notch or two soon). The top of your screen shows your distance between you and your target(s). You can select which ship you want to attack (if there are multiples) and then you can either fire a barrage (3 shots at once, which can be dodged), fire a normal round (which if your opponent is dodging will do more damage), or you can dodge. You can move forward, or move backward (in and out of range of your opponents weapons, and into or out of your weapons ranges as well). There is a meter which gains strength over time which is depleted by issuing commands (e.g., firing barrages takes more command power). The cut scenes in battle can be a bit lengthy, but a tap of the screen skips it.

Graphically, it looks pretty cool ... though some of the conversations scroll by quickly, so if you're a slow reader you may need to slow it down (if it's possible ... I need to check the setting options).

And here I was expecting infinite vector spaces, silly me.

Just an FYI though ... the manual does come in handy with this one. There are no "in game" tutorials to speak of, so the manual does come in handy.

PS: I hate when people sell their games back without the manuals, which means I don't buy them in that state. Needless to say, I've missed out on a couple of rare games because of this.

Easy to conduct but unforgiving if you make a tactical mistake. It's easy to fatigue your crew such that they underperform, and if you blow a couple of maneuvers in combat, you'll wind up as space junk. There is definitely a learning curve on this game.

A bit of oddness from SEGA here. In the manual it says there is a Commanders Guide for Infinite Space on the Sega website (http://www.sega.com/manuals/DS/InfiniteSpace). Yet, when you download the PDF it's two pages and the only text in the file are these:

Infinite Space DS
Sample Dummy Page Manual

WTF is up with that SEGA?

Ok, they do have a guide, but it's not at the URL found in the manual. You can access if from the SEGA website for Infinite Space, and the URL is:

This game is going to be one of those games that will be considered a "classic" given time, and will have a cult following. On Chapter 3, 5 hours of game play, and about 65 more hours to go. I'll be writing up a review in a bit, once I get a bit further into the game.

I already had a thread for this but Im sure its lost in the tons of threads created everyday. I saw the review from Nintendo Power this past weekend and I will prob grab this game in the next couple of weeks if I can knock down a few I already got and havent started.

@TJ.... glad you are enjoying the game. Its definate not for everyone. Build your own ships, navigate them, prep crews etc.... just not everybodies cup of tea I suppose. Well, Im a Shipbuiler by trade for the US Navy/Coast Guard so its straight up my alley. I cant wait to pick it up.

I might get it if I can find it real cheap. I'm kinda disappointed with what I've seen so far. While the battles do sound very deep and strategic, they look extremely boring. I mean, I would appreciate it if the battles were a little faster paced and the ships, like, actually moved. Even if there's a lot of thinking involved, there are only so many times that I can watch a 40+ second animation of a close-up of two ships as one fires its guns and then the other gets hit by them, before I start to get boring and I lose interest in it all.

Also, the pacing of the game sounds really lame: You select a planet to go to, fight some random battles, land, do some point 'n' click style stuff for the story and do some shopping, then repeat? You don't even get to explore around with the ship or anything? Lame.

Oh yeah, and the clunky menues and overall lack of user-friendliness sounds pretty annoying, too.

Man, I really hope Infinite Space gets a sequel addresses all the problems, but as is, it doesn't sound like the game for me. Sad, and I had such high hopes for it, too. I guess I should be glad I didn't pre-order it in the end.

@Mickey..... In the Nintendo Power they say that it does in fact start off slower but paces you into the game perfectly. The further you get the more open it becomes, is what they say. Im heading to Gamestop in a bit and taking a good bit of trade in stuff and I shall see what happens lol.

I bought this today and it's (sp)ace!

I've played on it for a few hours, and while I haven't got very far yet, It does look promising (I did buy it on the back of a favourable magazine US import review).

Eh, it still just doesn't sound like my kinda game. The customization and depth both sound really good to me, but that's about it, and hey, a table can't stand on one leg. While I can appreciate a game that does one or two things really well, that's not the kinda game I pay full price on.
