Are they making a new DS other then the XL/LL?

Cringing is really fun.

Not that I've heard... I think they've got to give the DSi/DSiXL a little time to breath first.

I think some source (I believe the EEDAR, if I spelled that correctly) said they expect Nintendo to announce to DS's sucessor by Spetember this year. Anyway, the DS is nearly 5 and a half years old, I'd be surprised if Nintendo isn't making a DS sucessor by now.

Exactly.

Birdman13's right - EEDAR predicted a DS successor (not an upgrade) in the next eight months. Of course that's just rumor, but like Birdman13 said, the DS is getting up there in years.

I'm ready for the "DS2" whenever it comes. I do believe I am quite done with any further versions of the DS(i).

Rezon - I have to agree with you. I'm sorry, but unless you've been living in a cave for the past decade or are younger than the DS itself, (and perhaps even if you're not) there is really no reason for you NOT to know what a DS is and whether you want one or not.

@Birdman: The DSi XL has not been released yet. Why would NIntendo release another one?

The DSi hasn't even been out a year yet and we've known the XL has been on its way for months already.

@ReZon: The XL is simply a larger model of the DSi. It's not necessarily a new DS

What I want in the DS2:

1. An analog stick attachment
2. Re-releases of the 3D games to use said analog sticks
3. Game Boy through Game Boy Advance compatibility
4. Make it wider
5. More N64 remakes (Ocarina of Time, maybe?)

@Starfox I'd also throw onto your list a VC for the DS2 and shoulder buttons that actually work for the lifetime of the system.

This. Anyways, I'm sure nintendo is developing a new DS, but don't expect it to come too soon.

Just let it happen.

The DS is still printing money for Nintendo. From a business perspective, they'd be stupid to make a new system right now.

Regardless, some who bought the DSi wouldn't have jumped right on it if they had known a new model was coming that quickly. I definitely would have waited. It raises the same question you asked though - why would Nintendo release another system so quickly?

The answer is $$$, and I would not expect the XL to slow down the release of the DS2 very much.

They should at least re-release the following with analog stick compatibility:

Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Super Mario 64 DS
Mario Kart DS
Star Fox Command
Diddy Kong Racing DS

I'm sure Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing will suffer the same flaws as the other racing games (e.g. cramped wrists). 3D games were designed for analog sticks.

I would rather they would come out with a new Gameboy than another DS.

Is there a difference outside the name? DS is basically Game Boy 4.

I really don't get why everyone is saying this. No offense to anyone, but I don't think it's a very thought out statement, for a few reasons.

  • why can't the new DS play gameboy games? And if you want to play them that bad, get a micro.
  • why would nintendo make a system that mainly supports games that aren't sold at major retailers anymore?
  • It would be more like a leap backwards than a leap forwards.
  • in case no one noticed, the first 2 DSs played GBA games, so it was basically a gameboy 4, like Raylax said.

The DS is a new Game Boy. They just changed the name with this handheld gen

I would like a system that is more like the Gameboy Advance SP with better graphics than another DS. I like the touch controls, but I also like the traditional way of playing as well. I wasn't trying to offend anyone, but to me, the Gameboy and the DS are completely different. Playing Gameboy Advance games on a DS isn't as good as playing them on a SP, in my opinion.
