Whatever happened to the "Three Pillars" approach they were doing? Game Boy, DS, and home console? They kind of forgot about that it seems.
I hope they don't have a new DS for a while, it feels like back in the Genesis/Mega Drive days when Sega kept releasing all these hardware add ons and revisions.

Since when was there Gameboys and DSes being released simultaneously? The DS is the successor to the Game Boy. How are DS games different to Game Boy games?

Don't ask me. If you remember when they first announced the DS they said it was "the third pillar" and that it would not replace the Game Boy and they would continue to support them all, and that a new Game Boy would come later. I assume they only said that in case the DS failed they wouldn't have ruined the Game Boy name and now that it's selling well they decided two pillars is enough.
Still, it seems weird to have both going at the same time: If developers want to release Game Boy style games, they can. They choose not to, because of the doors the touch screen opens...
Well the DS is 5 years old & Nintendo most probably all started on the Successor when they releases the Wii just probably trying to artificially extent the DS with the DSi Ripoff.
I would rather they would come out with a new Gameboy than another DS.
I really don't get why everyone is saying this. No offense to anyone, but I don't think it's a very thought out statement, for a few reasons.
why can't the new DS play gameboy games? And if you want to play them that bad, get a micro.
why would nintendo make a system that mainly supports games that aren't sold at major retailers anymore?
It would be more like a leap backwards than a leap forwards.
in case no one noticed, the first 2 DSs played GBA games, so it was basically a gameboy 4, like Raylax said.
-Not enough room; Micro can't play GB or GBC games btw -The gameboy is past its prime. We can't just dwell on the past and expect old systems to keep selling -I agree

Another thing, how are DS games different from gameboy games? A lot of DS games use buttons only, and use one screen for gameplay. The other screen does something useless like show a map. Look at New Super Mario Bros. DS for example.
Just let it happen.

@kawaiipikachu The DSi isn't a ripoff. It's a major step up from the Lite. Trust me, I was skeptical about it too, but choosing to get a DSi after my old DS Lite broke was a great decision. It's a big improvement over the Lite - all of its new features synergise to make it a much better system than even the Lite was.
I remember the "third pillar" idea, but with the DS's runaway success they didn't have to continue with Game Boys. And a good thing it was, since it would be stretching themselves very thin by supporting 3 devices at once.
And besides, the DS is the Game Boy 4. They could have called it Game Boy Touch or something. It's just silly to say a product would be better due to the name they chose for it.
But the decision to rebrand it to "DS" was a good move - "Game Boy" sounds like a child's toy (and has a history of being for kids) and one of Nintendo's biggest markets recently, middle- to old-aged people, wouldn't even have considered getting one. I see no problem with the DS brand, whereas "Game Boy" is too loaded to appeal to everyone.
It doesnt really bother me at the moment. I've only recently got a DS so Im trying to get all of the games that Ive missed (which is quite a lot). But I quite like the dual screens of the DS, so hopefully they move in that direction for the next one.
It would be a shame if it came out any time soon. The DSi is still new and the XL isn't even out yet. Not only would they be shooting themselves in the foot for DSi/XL and DSiWare sales, but current DSi owners (like myself) will be tee'd off, to say the least.
Yes. It shall have five screens, two of them touch, two of them normal, and the last one will read your mind and display it on screen. It willl have thirteen buttons and three control sticks, and a microphone you can implant in your throat. Also it will be able to play PS3 games.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

You forgot to mention that it has 7 cameras. There's 2 normal cameras, 2 X-ray cameras, 2 cameras that read minds, and one camera that serves as a night vision thing.
Just let it happen.

No, we don't need a new DS. I'm so happy with my DS Lite, thank you.
