Guys, I need your help XD Im fighting against the metal face (the lvl 10 boss) and I know I have to chain attack him. The thing is, even after chain attacking I keep dealing 1 damage. Do I need to choose skills that cause break and then topple? which skills exactly do I need to choose with shulk, reyn and dunban?

@VoltageX: Break and topple metal face during a chain attack.

Yeah, those guys are annoying, especially since I've played almost the entire game with a team of Shulk, Reyn, and Sharla and they are basically useless against them, so now I have to fight this tough boss while learning how to use a new character.

You should start to use Melia. You will get down the bossses summoned creatures by using Melias summon elemental spells. Just keep spamming them and they will go down quickly. Once they are dead the bosses defence will be gone/weakened and you can start to focus on the main boss. You have to act quick, bcuz the boss will keep summon new creatures. Some people say you should atleast keep one of it's summons to prevent the boss from summon new ones.
If I can remember it right I was using Melia/Reyn/Sharla for that battle. It some years ago now, not quite sure.
I made the boss at the current level I was, around 70 without grinding extra to meet her level 74, by using the method I mentioned.

A team to recommend to play is Melia/Dunban/Shulk, using topple/chainattack strategy.
I also used Shulk/Sharla/Reyn for the first 50%-75%, then I switced to the Melia/Dunban/Shulk, and I realized on how much I have been missing out with just using one and the same team pretty much the whole time.
You will need some practice, maybe look up some youtube videos, on how they work effectively together. Using this team can take down the most overleveled enemies. Riki would be another good alternative for switching out one of the members, since he also got topple attacks. Shulk you need although since he "breaks" the enemies, you can only topple an enemy when it is breaked.

I never got around to defeat those insanely big monsters(big monkeys?), mainly because I was too weak. Is it possible to defeat those guys on the first run without over lvling or is the new save file in which you keep your stats and items meant for that?

@Konda, yeah Melia is who I have tried to use. I just think I am not strong enough at level 70, so I want to go out to level up first because she is not doing me much good. I'm sure it is also that I don't know how to use her very well since I never have, but I'm sure I'll get it eventually. At this point, I just want to beat the game and be done with it. I've only had it since launch after all (the Wii launch, not the 3DS).

I think I usually filtered in new characters as they came into the game. Once I got Dunban, he replaced Reyn. I at least tried out Riki a little bit as well. Once I got Melia and 7th, I cycled between using those two over Shulk until literally the last battle. 7th is absolutely broken by the way.

pay attention to what the game tells you about your arts and what you have to use on specific things. it can be overwhelming, but if you love the game and you're invested in the world you should grow to learn what works.

For me, I like to put myself in the main character's shoes in RPGs, so I wanted to keep Shulk as my number one throughout (at least as much as possible), and Sharla had to stay because she could heal, and Reyn was just good so I kept him, too. It has worked well except for one or two battles where I had to switch it up. I have a question now though. I've been out trying to level up for my boss battle, and I can't touch any enemies that have a red warning. Some of them are only 7 or 8 levels above me, so I thought I would be able to beat them and get a lot of experience, but every attack misses. Is there a reason for this and a way to fix it? I know with Telethia it happened until you used Purge, but these are just everyday monsters. How are you supposed to get that achievement for beating a monster a lot stronger than you if you can't even hit them?

you can't beat a monster 8 levels higher.

you can't go through the game with just those 3 (actually maybe you can, but that would suck)

i originally wanted to stick with shulk too, but now i am usually melia, the whole crew is awesome, play the game how it's meant to be played!

Yay! I finally beat her! I leveled up to 73 and used Melia, Riki, and Sharla. It still took 4 or 5 tries because Sharla kept falling in the acid and dying, but once I got her to stay on land I took her down. Of course, there is more after that boss than I thought there would be, but that shouldn't be surprising as I have already thought the game was going to end about 10 times. But now I'm one step closer, and most people I saw online said that boss is the hardest in the game, even harder than the final one, so we'll see.

@Xyphon22: Personally I thought the final battle was the hardest one by far, but really the end game as a whole makes a pretty significant jump in difficulty.

I remember Loritha to be a pain in the ass when I played on the Wii. But don't recall having any issues with the final boss. Will see when I get their on the New 3DS version!!!

I keep playing and advancing in this game, and Im starting to see a pattern. I get down the mechanics of the battle system, but then comes a new boss and with it some new mechanics, and I have to learn new stuff all over again. I really enjoy the battle system, but I wish things will stop change soon so I can get the hang of what I already know XD
Im against the big spider boss, and I know I need to predict the future via the visions during battles. still getting used to it, and maybe need to grind a bit XD

VoltageX

@VoltageX: There's not much else added to the battle system after that point specifically. Any changes afterwards are more strategy or character based as I recall. You also have a very significant portion of the game left, so you'll have plenty of time to learn stuff.
