Am I the only one who thinks it would be awesome to play Super Mario Galaxy in 3D on the 3DS? Whether they port one, both, or package and port both in one card, I'd be completely satisfied! I'd probably shell out $60 for both in one card! Maybe $30 or $40 each for just one. And as for a sequel, well, I'd pay about $40 for that, too. What do you think? Would you pay this much? What would you like to see in a sequel or maybe added to a port? It's one of my all-time favorite games on any Nintendo system.
I don't remember where I read it, but when designing a 3D Mario platformer for the 3DS (which ended up being Super Mario 3D Land), one of the first things they did was run Super Mario Galaxy on the 3DS screen - and they discovered that Mario ended up way too small. So this led them to try and figure out a way to make a 3D platformer with a relatively large Mario on the screen; and Super Mario 3D Land was born. So I really don't know if the 3DS is really optimized for Mario Galaxy. But that's just me.
@Gioku I think with the 3DS XL and Nintendo's incredible ability to work with 3D interfaces on small screens, it seems like re-working the camera wouldn't be a huge thing for them to worry about, but it would certainly be a lot of work for a port. Maybe this would mean that it would be smarter to work on a sequel if they were to attempt to continue the series on the 3DS, so that they can work on limited space from the start. I do agree, though, that it would be very hard to play if all they did was re-size the game.
The thing I like about the 3DS is most games aren't remakes but original games changing the formula of the series they derive from which is why I would prefer an original 3D Mario, I love Galaxy but I don't want the series to become over used and stale.
Nope.
I think the Galaxy series still has potential for a third game, but it's gotta be something really mindblowing and spectacular, showing off what the Wii U can do.
I wouldn't mind getting another 3D Mario game on the 3DS, because more 3D Mario is always a good thing, but the whole 3D Land style probably suits handhelds better, whereas something bigger like Galaxy is more at home on a home console.
Of course, they have set a precedent for ports from the Wii now with Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, which I am now currently playing and enjoying; they did an amazing job with that one! I'm sure that, if they really wanted to, they could make Super Mario Galaxy work on 3DS; I just don't see that one happening, as I stated above. But it's probably not out of the question.
@Jazzer94 No offense, but you seem oblivious to the fact that the main portion of the 3DS's release title lineup consisted of remakes, ports, and new games that were complete flops. Plus, with all the ports on the 3DS, it seems inevitable that a Super Mario Galaxy game will be ported from the Wii eventually, being that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was one of the top 10 most sold Wii games of its console life. Also, for a series with two games in it, both great and original in their own awesome ways, but still relatable in the same series, Nintendo would really have to try to make a Super Mario Galaxy 3 that wasn't original...

If they did make a Galaxy 3 I would also prefer it on Wii U.

I know that remakes of games have been released on the 3DS thank you (only one this year DKCR3D), that doesn't change the fact that the majority of games are not remakes and are the main reason for buying the console to have new experiences.
@19Robb92 I agree, but I'm not ready to shell out $300 for a Wii U when it seems to have been, not a flop, but not a success either. Not to mention, I love my Mario games, but New Super Mario Bros. U was pretty stale. I'm worried the series is overstaying its welcome. I'm certainly not saying Nintendo should ditch Mario. I'm saying that the New Super Mario Bros. series is getting old. To put it poetically for no reason, before they were all new, they were each new. However, New Super Mario Bros. rants can be saved for another thread. I'm sorry mine slipped out. I don't really know what it had to do with your comment... By the way, I really doubt the 3DS screen is 240p... I was under the impression it was at least 480 if not 720!

What are you talking about 720p I haven't laughed all day till I read that thanks.
@BenAV I see where you are coning from, and that seems to be the consensus, but it seems like they could find a way to work the game into that "tiny" screen... Not to mention, the 3DS XL screen isn't that tiny. I don't know. I seem to be the only one who is comfortable with my current 3DS screen size. However, I think we can both at least agree that there is certainly room for more sequels, but they have lots of expectations, being that SMG 2 was way better than SMG 1, which was itself an extremely impressive game, so the pressure to make SMG 3 as much better than SMG 2 was to SMG 1 (does that make any sense?), could be a lot for Nintendo.

Too bad. I wouldn't want to see SMG being downgraded on a handheld. I'd much rather pay for a WiiU & play it on that personally.
And no, 3DS is not 480p (the WIiU GamePad screen is that resolution) and it's most definitely not 720p. It's 240p.

@NintendoFTW1999: It is 240p, believe it or not! the "240p" refers to the screen height; and the 3DS screen is 400 x 240 pixels.
I looked it up, and it is indeed 240p. By the way, I'm a filmmaker, and I'm not oblivious to the term 240p. A pixel by pixel count wasn't necessary. Just for future reference...
Also, the 3DS XL is the exact same resolution as the regular 3DS; the pixels are just bigger.
@NintendoFTW1999: I just always try to explain things as thoroughly as possible just in case somebody doesn't know as much as you apparently do... not everybody knows what "240p" actually means.
