Excusing my username, I was wondering what I should pickup this Christmas. I've been wanting a "new" 2DS xl for a while now, after reading some stuff I came for opinions. I'm wondering if I should wait (if there is going to be another 2ds relaesed), or if I should just get it on Christmas. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Whether you go for the 2DS or 3DS really just comes down to how much the 3D effect matters to you. All the games are playable without it - it's part of the Nintendo QA process that they have to be - although some will lose a bit of their sheen. In my experience, even those with a 3DS tend to leave it turned off most of the time too.

So far as new models go, you can never tell with Nintendo as they're quite prone to releasing them late in the commercial lifetime of their consoles. That said, I doubt there'll be any radical differences, and any new revisions will be surely aimed at reducing costs than adding new capabilities.

Definitely get the New 2DS XL.

1) You want one of the "New" models because of the added c-stick which is excellent for camera controls and the advanced processor which means you can play Xenoblade, Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors and the SNES virtual console games.

2)It has the bigger screen and one of the best designs for the general outer shell.

3) It's cheaper than the New 3DS XL and there are only a few examples in some games of where the 3D is essential. Mario 3D Land and A Link Between Worlds both have points where they use the 3D for gameplay but they're so rare and short that you'll manage to deal with them in 2D if necessary.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Between New 3DS and New 2DS it only comes down to if you care about the 3D. Over thousands of hours playing 3DS games over the last 6ish years, I don't think I used the 3D for 6 hours. But I have read about people who never turned it off since they got it too. So it really is a matter of personal preference.
