Topic: Sending my 3DS XL in for repair

I was just wondering since they told me to send in my SD card and it's a 16GB one by the way. Should I take it out, will it void the warranty? and also Should I back the data up or not? My baby dropped my 3DS XL on the floor and when I looked at it a little while later the screen had the black and colored lines and also has three cracks in the screen. Does anyone know if that will be covered or how much it will cost if it isn't? I just want to know before I send it in if it's really worth sending in or just get a new 3DS XL?

You'll probably have to pay for it, as the way you described it looks like it falls under "Physical damage" (that said, I've done worse to my Zelda 3DS **gloat** than that, so it'll be up to them).

I don't think you need to take out the SD card. As for data backup, just copy everything from the card onto a computer. The system backup (Friend-Code and system-related stuff) might be erased during the backup, but don't worry too much about that.

The repairs range from 50-90$ (maybe just 70$), and they do a really good job cleaning it and polishing it up. Definitely not worth getting a new one. If they can't repair it, they'll give you a new one (if your 3DSXL is under warranty and stuff.)

Your XL came out under a year ago, it's still under warranty. You shouldn't have to send your SD card in, I was told to take it out.

Well if they told you to send in the SD card maybe they will need it to copy your stuff to a new 3DSXL that they will give you to replace the broken one. With that said backing up the data would be a good idea just in case something happen, that way you wont lose everything that you worked to get. As for the price of repair it should be free since the 3DSXL isnt even a year old so the warranty should be good still.

Yeah, physical damage isn't covered, but some people have had success with free repairs out of warranty. Hope for the best.

Also, yeah, why did you give a 3DS to a baby?

I personally have never sent anything into Nintendo for repair but from what I have heard around here and other forums is that Nintendo is one of the best companies to deal with and will get you squared away in no time. I think the most you will have to worry about is what are you going to do without your 3DS for the time being.

i didn't, i just left it where he could reach it. the only downside is that i can't play fire emblem on the bigger screen until i get it back. although i can play it on my son's regular 3DS when he's at school during the week. i'm hoping that it won't take long because it's just going to toronto and i live like a hour and half away from there.

I'm actually sending mine in, too. The camera functions are acting weird. Green lines will show, up or the camera will stay black and freeze up. I got the XL the day it came out, and I know it's still covered by warranty, but do I have to pay shipping or anything?

i am paying for mine but i'm shipping it with a different company than what they recommend, because i don't have a Purlator near me. You can request a UPS shipping label from them if you live in the States but it will take 4-11 days for you to get the shipping label. So it's up to whether you pay for it or not. But you don't have to pay for return shipping

UPDATE: I have to pay 125 to get my system fixed...i don't have that kind of money right now....damn Nintendo!!!!!! I guess I'll just have to get a new one.

Yeah for that price you might as well get a new one for about 40 dollars more. You can always see about trading in the broken one towards the price of a new one.

did you think that even though half of the screen is black, that I can still transfer from the broken 3DS XL to my new one when I get it? I can't remember if the transfer is all done on the bottom screen of the source system or not. It's been awhile since I did a transfer. I'm going to keep the old one for me to give to my one year old so he doesn't break the new one.
