Going purely Gen 7: Rowlet, Rockruff, Grubbin, Alolan Vulpix, Jangmo-o, and probably Salandit for better type coverage.
That could definitely change depending how certain Pokemon evolve, like Crabrawler, Comfey, Komala, Pikipek, etc. Hopefully Pikipek gets a cool evolution but so far I'm not convinced to have it on my team.
90% of alolan ninetail art I had to see was anthropomorphic and there is like no brionne or crabrawler art.. savage
I really like lunaala but that day/night cycle thing... I'd rather have one traded over and be over to evolve lycanroc day form anytime. Unless lurantis is exclusive to this version I doubt I'll switch my preorder from sun to moon for lunaala.

@Portal_King Some people try to make well balanced team compositions so they can succeed throughout the game (you need a surfer, cutter, etc, something to deal with type disadvantages) it generally makes the first playthrough more convient with what pokemon you'd like to pick up.
I've had enough times where I just "caught what I liked" and then realized.. "oh fire type E4..."
Plus its just fun, people like to "roleplay" their teams with the new pokemon.

Wait, people plan their teams?! As someone who creates their team as they go along without any pre-planning, why do you guys plan your teams?
I also go along without any planning since the games are so easy, and I always at least try to catch and evolve every new Pokemon that I can anyway. But I think some people like to 'lock-in' what six they will use the entire/most of the game.
For me it's more of "I definitely want these Pokemon on my team at some point in the game because they're my favorites" but it's subject to change. Basically, "I'm hunting these six down for sure, but my team could still change"
It's also just fun to pick 6 Pokemon wether or not you actually stick with that team in the final game.
my team is just what i will mainly use. but I plan on catching every Alola region Pokemon that there is. Plus since I have four kids I will be able to get whatever version exclusives they are in Moon. My 4 year old and I are picking Sun and my older two want Moon. Honestly cannot wait for the demo to drop. It is coming on my birthday and I am so excited. lol I am a big Pokemon fan lol
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
Personally, I find it more enjoyable to stick with the ones I like design-wise on the first playthrough. After that, I reset, plan a team and go full completionist/competitive mode.
@Pokefanmum82 Same here. There's something about Pokémon that makes the community come together in a special way. It might be its mass appeal or its social aspect, hell if I know. I'm counting the hours before the demo arrives.
I might just get both versions. I've never done this in the past unless I ruined one of them coughhacking but for sun and moon I feel like I'd have more enjoyment out of gen 7 if I played them both for full accessibly to version exclusives (lunaala) and a better post game experience. As well as a method of resetting which ever I don't plan to continue for the sake of soft reseting legends.

For each generation, I only catch new Pokenon my first time through.
I try and catch everything. "Gotta catch 'em all" and all that. All the mythic Pokemon being released this year has me motivated to complete the Pokedex, I even managed to acquire all the Vivillon patterns, some of which were an absolute pain to get.
@shaneoh It'll be interesting to see how many Pokémon are available in Alola and how many new Pokémon there are in general. I loved most of X and Y's new Pokémon (the 72 of them) but I felt that 450 Pokémon in the region overall was a bit overboard.

Yeah I'm looking forward to seeing all the new 'mon, even the ones that are just a form difference. While X & Y did have a large number of 'mon in the Kalos Pokedex, I thought that the reduced reliance on older generations of games was a good thing.
I just hope they improve the GTS, I want to be able to filter out Legendary 'mon as well as Mythic. I'm not trading my Articuno for a Bidoof, hell, I wouldn't trade a Bidoof for a Bidoof.
