@link-the-volnutt I'm not saying that. I only said they don't specify the screen you get. It's a shady practise, but it's not false advertisement.

Poor sucker nintendo fanboy: Oh, mommy, MOMMY, LOOK! Nintendo made a new 2DS! It's so cool mommy! Look at the screen! it's so colorful and sharp looking! I want one! I want one!

A week later

Mom: What's the matter, Jimmy? You don't seem to be using your new Nintendo anymore. Is something the matter? Is it broken perhaps? Want me to take it to the store later to get it fixed?

Poor sucker nintendo fanboy: Sigh, no mommy... It's just that... sob when I saw it in the commercial a week ago, the screen was gorgeous and colorful, but now that it's here in right front of me, the screen is a blurry pixelated washed out mess.

Mom: smiling That's Nintendo for you! They're the pioneers of false advertising!

ba dum tiss!

@link-the-volnutt I guess that kid also complained when Mario didn't jump out of his original 3DS..

Look, I agree with you to an extent. There's a bit of irony in the fact that Nintendo, the company who's known for the high quality product, slaps a cheaper screen on their handheld device without telling you and calls it a day. I also wish you could differentiate between the two models without opening the box (different serial number perhaps?). On the other hand, Nintendo never advertised the 3DS having an IPS or TN screen, so they're not lying... It's shady, but not illegal.

But anyway, this topic has been discussed to death, so I'll stop here.

@Octane it is though.

3DS store models all have ips displays.

Their 3DS ads use ips displays.

Their demo units use ips displays

And not sure where I heard this from but I believe Nintendo did say their N3DS line will have IPS displays. So they're a bunch of liars and false advertisers.

It looks cheap and ugly, but it comes with a charger at least. And when most games don't even include the 3D functionality, this might be a good solution, provided it's a lot cheaper.

Why does it have two cameras though?

Really on the 3d. It's the opposite actually and most games do include 3d. I have about 100 games and maybe 5 to 10 don't have 3d.

@Spoony_Tech I keep hearing about all those games that don't feature stereoscopic 3D, like Hey! Pikmin. Pokemon is another one. It feels as if Nintendo doesn't really care anymore. I don't think you're losing out on a lot by buying a 2DS.

I would think 3DS ads would use “CGI“ displays.

While I admit that some having lower quality screens is seedy, I'm curious to know if there really is that much impact. And we are in a time where games with a few minor graphical blemishes get compared to the PS2...

At first I didn't like the design, but it's growing on me. Overall I like it now other than the placement of the speakers. I normally play lounging or laying down, but it probably wouldn't be a big deal.

I've been planning on upgrading my 3DS, though I'll likely opt for a standard N3DS if Nintendo either brings last year's holiday promotion back or releases a N3DS bundle I'm interested in. If not, I may be getting this instead. I'll miss the 3D, but I'd willingly sacrifice it for a cheaper system with all the other upgrades.

Tbh though, you shouldn't have to give up the 3d as the price of the N3ds should be cheaper. Hope you can find another deal like last year so you don't have to give that up.

Eh, 3D's fad is over. I've actually left mine off on my N3DS for the past long while. It's neat, but it doesn't add a whole lot.

Definitely what I'm hoping for. By the time I got around trying to order the black Mario N3DS, they were already sold out. I don't know how people do it; either they call in sick or hover over the purchase button on their browsers/phones when management isn't looking.

I know most 3DS games are perfectly playable without the 3D, but for me it personally adds to the experience in most cases. I played through 3/4 of Bravely Default without the 3D effect (trying to conserve the battery before I finally bought a replacement), and the effect was truly stunning when I turned it on for the first time in Ancheim.

@Frosty_09 There was a moment in Metal Gear Solid 3 early on in a cinema where Snake flicks his cigar right at the screen and you'd swear it was coming right at your face. I loved it so much I closed out the game just to view it 2 more time lol. Sorry for the off topic.

I know most people don't seem to care about the 3d but to me it makes the graphics look better. In 2d almost all games looked washed out on the 3ds. In 3d the games become crisp. My point is we don't need this new system when Nintendo could've just lowered the price of the New 3ds XL. The system is now 2 years old and I'm sure parts don't cost nearly as much yet they still stick to that premium price.

@Meowpheel: Fair point. I'm just a little concerned about weird cases like me who play with the system resting against their stomach half of the time; I'd be afraid that this would muffle the sound instead. XD
